Is God Turning the Bear?

For about 70 years, between 1920 and 1970, the USSR was ever expanding. Soviet leaders gobbled up Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Poland, part of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, East Germany, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia and much more.

In the early 90s, some nations rebelled and demanded their independence. Soviet leaders tried to hold the union together, but the rebellion spread, the Soviets lost their power and the USSR fell apart.

Some political leaders thought the collapse of the Soviet Union meant that the world had entered a new era of peace, but by the end of the decade a former KGB agent named Vladimir Putin had risen to power and become the acting president of Russia.

He went on to become president, then prime minister and then president again. He changed laws, consolidated his power, cracked down on his opposition, rebuilt the military, developed close ties with Iran and quietly nurtured the dream of restoring the old Soviet Union. Some even said he also wanted to take over all of Europe.

Mr. Putin liked to present himself as a strongman and his desire to restore the old USSR troubled some of the former Soviet Union nations. His intervention in Georgia, Kyrgystan, Ukraine, his annexation of Crimea and the fact that he threatened to use Russian power outside Russia’s borders made them nervous.

Several of those former USSR nations joined, or tried to join NATO, primarily for protection. They had broken away from the old power-hungry bear and they didn’t want to be subjugated and forced back in.

About eight months ago when Mr. Putin took over Crimea, western leaders finally decided that he had gone too far and he needed to be turned around. They demanded that he stop supporting the opposition forces in Crimea and threatened to impose sanctions on Russia if he didn’t turn around and leave. Their initial sanctions were virtually meaningless and Mr. Putin scoffed at them, but western leaders continued to ramp up the sanctions and the bear began to hurt.

Almost overnight, there was a global glut of oil triggered by an economic downturn in Asia and Europe, fracking for oil in the U.S. and stepped up production of oil in Saudi Arabia. The price of oil quickly dropped from more than $100 per barrel to less than $60 per barrel. The Russian Ruble collapsed, the Russian economy went into a tailspin, and Russia was suddenly facing the prospects of a recession or possibly a depression.

The looming economic disaster and the likelihood that the Russian people might eventually rebel got Mr. Putin’s attention. He now appears to be looking for a way to save face, turn around and leave Crimea. But he has promised the Russian people that he will retaliate against those who have imposed sanctions on Russia and he has promised that he will solve Russia’s economic problems in the next two years.

The Russian bear’s actions made me think of the battle of Gog and Magog. Gog will try to expand his kingdom in the latter days and latter years. But God said, “I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth” (Ezek. 38:4).

Is Mr. Putin Gog? Is God turning Gog around? How will Gog retaliate? I don’t think anyone knows. We can only say that Russia must turn away from one target before God pulls her toward a second target (Israel).

God also said, “It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought” (Ezek. 38:10).

What is this evil thought? The Bible doesn’t say but it appears to be:

“To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land” (Ezek. 38:12).

And some would add, “To satisfy the ancient Islamic hatred for Israel.”

I don’t know what Mr. Putin was thinking when he told the Russian people he will solve Russia’s economic problems in the next two years, but China and India have offered to help Russia so it will take a little time for Russia’s recession to reach full bloom.

Israel has acquired phenomenal wealth with minerals from the Dead Sea, oil and natural gas, agricultural success, cattle and goods; and Mr. Putin has not been reluctant to steal from other countries. We don’t know when it will happen, but many would not be surprised to see the battle of Gog and Magog in the next two years.

A wounded bear is dangerous and this wounded bear may not be ready to go away. He may turn around and seek a different prey. But regardless of anything I have written, what he has been trying to do to Israel will be done to him. He will become the prey and God will be known in the eyes of many nations (Obad. 1:15; Ezek. 38:23; 39:17-20).

Watching For A Hook

The list of experts who teach that Russia, Iran and others will attack Israel in a future war called the Battle of Gog and Magog is impressive (Ezek. 38-39). So for the sake of brevity, I will simply state that God will put a hook in the jaws of Russia’s leader (Ezek. 38:4) and drag him and his allies into Israel in the latter days (Ezek. 38:16) and latter years (Ezek. 38:8). And I will make eight points about this in connection with current events.

First, Israel attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities is not the Battle of Gog and Magog. But, if Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear facilities, Russia and Iran have said they will counterattack and that could be the Battle of Gog and Magog.

Second, I agree with those who say Psa. 83 is a prayer about a war between Israel and her neighbors that will take place before the Battle of Gog and Magog. This war hasn’t happened, but events seem to indicate that it could happen soon. An Intifada has been raging in Jerusalem for more than two months; there is currently a temporary ceasefire between Israel and the PA, but Hamas is threatening to break it and no one expects it to hold.

Third, I agree with those who say Isa. 17 prophesies a war between Israel and Syria that will take place before the Battle of Gog and Magog. This hasn’t happened, but it is something else that could happen soon. The U.S. and several Arab allies have already attacked oil fields, refineries, Islamic State troops, other terrorists and weapons in Syria even though Russia, Iran and Syria warned us not to do it. In the past, Syria, Russia and Iran have threatened to attack Israel, if Syria is attacked. Israel has her troops on high alert and the IDF has just shot down a Syrian jet that supposedly strayed over Israeli territory.

Fourth, on Sept. 17, 2014, Israel’s Minister of Intelligence, Yuvall Steinitz said Iran is nine to eighteen months away from developing a nuclear bomb and Iran already has missiles that can deliver one. He pointed out that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said, “Israel will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.” Nine to eighteen months will quickly come and go. Therefore, it is obvious that time is running out for Israel to act and for Russia, Iran and others to respond.

Fifth, on Sept. 18, 2014, the P5 +1 (the permanent five members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) began what they call their final round of negotiations with Iran over the abandonment of Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons. Furthermore, the two sides have agreed to resolve all of their differences by Nov. 24, 2014. So the P5 + 1 and Iran are now less than two months away from their self-imposed deadline, the talks are going nowhere and Iran says she will not give up her nuclear program. In addition to this, because of western sanctions on Russia over her actions in Ukraine, Russia has threatened to retaliate against the west by siding with Iran in these negotiations.

Sixth, in 2013, Israel included almost three billion dollars in her budget to finance a war with Iran. In 2014, Israel budgeted almost three billion dollars more for a war with Iran. In Sept. 2014, while preparing Israel’s budget for 2015, a problem arose. Israeli Finance Minister, Yair Lapid, did not want to raise taxes on the Israeli people, but Israeli Air Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Amir Eshel, wanted more money to upgrade Israel’s Air Force and Prime Minister Netanyahu wanted more money to finance operations to deal with security threats against Israel. Some in the media took Mr. Netanyahu’s request for more money to mean that Israel will soon attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. Could it happen in the next nine months?

Seventh, Russia’s economy is in trouble. Mr. Putin is still financing a covert war in Ukraine. Western nations have gradually upped sanctions on Russia and the sanctions are finally beginning to take hold. Russia threatened to cut off the flow of natural gas to the EU, but the loss of income could be devastating. The value of the Ruble has dropped 15% against the dollar this year and a recession is looming. Russia will soon have to change her ways, deal with a recession, or find a prey with silver and gold, cattle and goods.

Eighth, based on the Jewish Talmud (not the Bible) some say a Tetrad of blood moons are an omen of war for Israel. It is a debatable issue, but no one can deny that the first blood moon in the current Tetrad occurred on April 15, 2014 (the Feast of Passover), the next blood moon will occur on October 8, 2014 (the Feast of Tabernacles) and there will be two more in 2015.

Russia is still causing trouble in Ukraine; Pres. Obama is arming the so-called friendly rebels in Syria; the U.S. and several Arab allies are attacking the Islamic State in Syria; Israel’s war with Hamas is probably not over; so it is quite possible that within months God could set the hook on Russia. Time will tell.

Nearing Midnight ~ Israel Stands Alone, Russia Reclaims Power, US in Decline! Just the Facts!

This week as we look at the Signs of the Times we will begin our commentary with Israel. Mercifully, as far as Israel is concerned, the US led peace talks between Israel and the PA have collapsed. For the past 25 years or more, the government of the US has attempted to pressure the leaders of Israel into a succession of bad peace agreements with the PA, causing Israel to give up land and security to an enemy who has never wavered from their goal of complete destruction of Israel and the Jewish people. With each successive administration over these past 25 or so years, the US support of and commitment to Israel has declined to the point that this present administration shows open contempt for Israel as a nation and for its democratically elected leaders. The US in no longer a true friend of Israel.

Unfortunately, the Obama administration long ago surrendered the position that the US doesn’t negotiate with terrorists (as in Iran), therefore we can expect this administration to continue to press Israel even though the PA has signed a unity agreement with Hamas (a terrorist organization who has not nor will renounce terror). US Secretary of State John Kerry claims they were “blindsided” by the agreement between the PA and Hamas. Apparently he must not have been as in tune with the situation in the Middle East as he believed himself to be. This is simply another example of the arrogance of this administration and its glaring lack of understanding and experience in the area of foreign policy.

Which brings us to the Ukraine. The Russian people (through our church family we have contacts among the average folk in Russia) believe the crisis in the Ukraine is the responsibility of the US because of its interference in internal Ukrainian politics. They may very well be right. The Obama administration has been involved in the collapse of several governments in the past 5 plus years, and not once has this led to better conditions in those countries, let alone a move toward a representative form of government. Meanwhile Vladimir Putin continues his consolidation of power and influence in every area of the world where this administration has shown weakness. (It is here I will insert this plea for you to read all of our previous teaching on this blog as it applies to End Times prophecy. Because the US is NO WHERE mentioned in the prophetic Word of God, it appears to me that prophecy is being fulfilled in the fact that this nation’s global influence is in decline.) Even Ann Graham Lotz, during the National Day of Prayer service, warned that America has “strayed so far from the ways of God that time is running out and judgment is coming soon.” She said that “God is urgently warning America to repent now!” I too pray that a national Spiritual Revival will come, but I am aware that the National Political decline is probably irreversible.

One more thing! In the past three to five years we have seen many of the great Pre-Trib, Premillennial, Dispensational Bible Preachers and Teachers “Graduate” to Heaven. This past week Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost joined that number. His book, “Things to Come” was the early catalyst which set me on the path to study, understand, and teach Bible Prophecy. I wonder, in these “Last Days” if God isn’t gathering them to Himself now because of persecution and other “things to come” which Christians in the True Church will face before the Rapture and ensuing time of Tribulation.

There is no better time than now to turn to Christ! John 14:6 it is. Jesus plus Nothing! Because;

Wars and Rumors of Wars!

Last Tuesday our Signs of the Times update concentrated on Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and the collapsing peace process. This week I’d like to revisit that subject in some detail, but first we need to take a look at the ongoing crisis situation that exists in the Ukraine, and perhaps gain some insight as to how these two international crises are related to one another in light of Biblical Prophecy.

During the EU and US sponsored talks in Belgium which brought the Russian and Ukrainian government representatives face-to-face, an understanding was reached calling for the withdrawal of all insurgents occupying government facilities. However, apparently each side in this dispute has a different idea of who the insurgents are. The Russians believe the insurgents are those who now control the Ukrainian government having forced the removal of the pro-Russian government. The Ukrainians believe the insurgents are the pro-Russian forces which have barricaded themselves inside police stations and other government facilities.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared Friday that the pro-Russia insurgents in eastern Ukraine will only lay down their arms if the Ukrainian government clears out the Maidan (square) protest camp in Kiev, and liberates the buildings that have been illegally seized. And so the stalemate continues. Meanwhile as the US begins to enact more economic sanctions on Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin has halted all communication with President Barack Obama. In fact the Kremlin has shut down all intensive high-level communication between top Russian and US officials.

With the annexation of Crimea completed, and growing unrest in evidence throughout Eastern and Southern Ukraine, I believe it is only a matter of time before Russia completes its takeover ambitions. Russian military elements along the Ukrainian border have engaged in a new series of military exercises in response to ongoing NATO exercises in Poland. As I have stated before, I believe there are several reasons for which Vladimir Putin believes Russia must control the Ukraine. These reasons include:

  • The natural gas pipeline which services all of Europe travels from Russia through Ukraine to Romania’s Black Sea coastal plain into the Black Forest of Germany in the heart of Europe.
  • South Ukraine contains huge natural gas and oil deposits both on and offshore in the Black Sea.
  • South Ukraine is the industrial home of much of the Russian military, with factories producing small arms and ammunition as well as military equipment and components, not to mention vast shipbuilding yards.
  • South Ukraine contains nuclear, coal, and hydroelectric power plants essential for Crimea. The uranium mine at Zheltiye Vody is located in South Ukraine as is Dneprozerzhinsk (the heavy water production site), capable of producing 250 metric tons of heavy water yearly.
  • And finally, there is a significant Russian speaking majority in South Ukraine just as there is in Crimea.

This is all necessary “stage setting” for the End Times war spelled out in Ezekiel 38 & 39 when Gog, of the land of Magog, the Prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal leads his armies and those of Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer, and Togarmah against Israel. Crimea and the Ukraine are Russia’s gateway to the south via their ports on the Black Sea.

Turning now to Israel, this past week the Palestinian Authority completed a unity agreement with the terrorist organization Hamas, which controls Gaza. This of course effectively ended negotiations between Israel and the PA as the Palestinians sought a two state solution leading to their independence. For Mohammed Abbas, this was a clear sign he saw the peace talks going nowhere. And, unfortunately, that he cares more about relations with hard-line terrorists than he does about relations with the United States or Israel.

Two weeks ago Mohammed Abbas signed 15 international agreements which require PA to respect human rights and punish war criminals. This past week he signed a unity deal with terror groups whose leaders are war criminals. Every leader of Islamic Jihad and Hamas are considered international war criminals, partly because every single rocket launched from Gaza into Israel is a separate war crime. Under the Geneva Conventions, which Mahmoud Abbas signed onto just a couple of weeks ago, he is required to put them on trial for their war crimes. This simply proves to me that Mahmoud Abbas is himself a terrorist and the PA is a terrorist organization.

This agreement between Hamas and the PA came just days before the Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel. On Sunday evening at Yad Vashem during the official state ceremony commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “This evening we will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day and the State of Israel will remember the six million victims of the Holocaust.” Earlier Sunday at his regular weekly cabinet meeting the Prime Minister stated “the main difference between the Jews’ helplessness during the Holocaust and their situation now, is that we now have a sovereign state with a strong military that protects us from those who seek to harm us.” He continued saying “Iran is at the top of the list of those who seek to destroy us” and “Aside from its own nuclear ambitions, Iran finances, arms and trains Hamas and the other terror groups lurking on our borders. Hamas denies the Holocaust while trying to facilitate another one by destroying the State of Israel.”

In the US however, Secretary of State John Kerry and this present administration continued to lay the failure of the peace process at the feet of Israel. This administration over the past 5+ years has continually treated our closest ally in the Middle East with disrespect and disdain, vilifying them for their desire to live securely within their own land. This is by far the most anti-Semitic administration in the history of the United States. From Barack Obama’s demand that Israel return to its pre-1967 borders (essentially the borders of 1949), to declaring his dislike of the Israeli Prime Minister (calling him a liar) to the president of France, to John Kerry’s continued pressure on Israel, stating that Israel was at risk of inviting the third intifada, to his most recent suggestion on April 25, that Israel is on the verge of becoming an “apartheid state,” this administration has demonstrated an unprecedented hostility towards Israel.

In fact, John Kerry’s libelous statement is a dangerous example of the precedent that has been set by this administration. This demonization of Israel only emboldens those who seek her destruction. Israel is surrounded by people’s and nations which seek to wipe her off the face of the map, and John Kerry’s anti-Semitic rhetoric will only lead to more bloodshed.

Israel’s enemies in the PA, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda, and the ISL among others are representative of the people groups listed in Psalm 83 whose desire is her total destruction. I believe this too is “stage setting” for the Last Days. Understanding the Scripture, we know that war in the Middle East is inevitable, and its outcome was prophesied many years ago. The tragedy here isn’t the war or its destruction, the tragedy is the many lives which will be lost for eternity because they reject the God of Israel and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Another part of the tragedy that I see in these Last Days, is that because of creeping liberalism within the “churches” in the US, having embraced Replacement Theology, anti-Semitism has infected not only the “church” but our politics as well. This nation is nearing destruction because it has turned its back on God’s chosen nation Israel. (See Genesis 12:3)

If you desire to know more about what the Bible says prophetically about the wars which are still to come at the end of the age, keep reading our blog for this teaching. The End Times are upon us as we live in these Last Days. There is no better time than now to turn your heart toward God because;

Signs of the Times… Weather, Israel, Russia, and the US attacking individual rights!!!

For the past several weeks we have begun our updates with weather related events and natural disasters. Today I will only do so briefly, and in fact my comments today will be brief in several areas as there is one news event in particular that I feel I need to spend some time on.

While it is neither related to weather or natural disasters, the first of four blood red moons which make up a tetrad over the next 24 months was visible in the sky over much of the Americas late last night and early this morning. While many say that they perhaps are significant in End Times prophecy, or to the nation of Israel, I have found no true scriptural evidence of these claims. There will be signs in the moon and stars during the tribulation period for certain, but to ascribe significance to them outside of that time is extra biblical. I did however step out into the chill night air to observe the moon and did find it to be quite beautiful.

Weather

Much of the country is experiencing yet another cold front that has dipped well into the South with threat of severe weather moving eastward in front of it, yet the weather service is predicting only rain wind and some hail.

Earthquakes in the Solomon Islands over the weekend produced a threat of tsunamis which never fully developed, and Nicaragua has been shaken with a series of earthquakes over the past few days as well. The number of earthquakes worldwide continues to grow in frequency and intensity now almost monthly rather than yearly. Once again, Scripture tells us that during the tribulation earthquakes will literally tear the earth apart, and a significant number of lives will be lost as a result.

The volcanoes we wrote about last week continue to belch volcanic ash into the air affecting air quality and in some cases airline traffic flight patterns.

Again, I see all of these things as a part of the birth pangs leading to the End Times.

Russia and Ukraine

In the wake of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, unrest continues to grow in the Eastern Ukrainian provinces. The Ukrainian government, and others in the West blame Russian infiltrators for the takeover of police stations and other government buildings in the region. The Ukrainians assert that those involved are too well organized and uniformed to simply be Russian sympathizers from Ukraine. Meanwhile in a telephone conversation with Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin urged him to warn the Ukrainian government not to use military force against the insurgents. Russia still has 60,000+ troops amassed along their common border with Ukraine.

Russia and Iran

Putin this week also asserted that Russia was not bound by any US sponsored trade embargoes regarding oil exports from Iran, and is going ahead with plans to supply rocket and missile technology to Iran in exchange for oil exports. This at a time while the US and the remaining members of the G-8 are still attempting to forge a treaty with Iran which will limit or eliminate their nuclear aspirations. For their part, the Iranian government says they have no plans to limit their plutonium enrichment efforts.

Israel and Palestine

It was reported this week that while Israeli and Palestinian negotiators continued to talk without the presence of mediators from the United States government, that the consensus is that the peace talks are dead.

In hearings on Capitol Hill, Senator John McCain told Secretary of State John Kerry that “talks, even though you might drag them out for a bit, are finished.” This came during a heated exchange between the two men during the hearings as the senator enumerated all of the failed foreign-policy initiatives of the Obama administration.

In Israel Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to initiate steps to annex approximately 60% of the West Bank in response to the Palestinians efforts to move toward the UN by signing international treaty conventions. Bennett said; “It is clear that the diplomatic process has run its course and that we are entering a new era, we have been hitting our heads against the wall of negotiations over and over again for years and we kept getting surprised when the wall did not break. The time has come for new thinking.” Bennett launched a public relations effort for his “Settlement Blocs First” plan. Any real examination of security threats against the nation of Israel from not only Palestinian positions within the West Bank and Gaza, but all of her border areas as well, including the Mediterranean sea, will certainly see that the Nation State of Israel can never return to the pre-1967 borders and effectively defend its nation and people.

There is no historic Palestinian people, and to assert that there are, or that they ever had any capital in Jerusalem, is not just intellectually dishonest, but is an outright political lie. The “Palestinians” who occupy the West Bank and Gaza are an amalgamation of ethnicities and Arabs from the surrounding geographic areas of Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and other Arabic states who in truth have been disenfranchised by their Muslim relatives and not Israel.

In the coming weeks I plan to devote an entire blog on the subject.

The United States ~ Government overreach and an attack on the First Amendment.

I’m certain that almost everyone is aware of the standoff between Cliven Bundy and his family, and agents of the United States government’s Bureau of Land Management this past week. Unfortunately, very little coverage was given to the situation by the major news outlets of the mainstream media. However, the Fox news network, online news organizations and social media extensively reported on the situation. What little information that was disseminated in the mainstream press, was to say the least, erroneous.

Having spent the majority of my life in the agricultural community and in particular as a ranch manager, I am very familiar with the BLM, grazing permits, and relationships between the government regulators and ranchers. The BLM initially was to administer state and federal lands leased to those in the ranching community. The fees that the ranchers paid for the right to graze their cattle on these lands were supposed to go toward maintaining infrastructure and waterways on the lands for the benefit of both the land and the ranching endeavors. Over time the BLM has become a political entity controlled by radical environmentalists within the Interior Department. Today the reality is that these radical environmentalists would like to eliminate cattle from all BLM and National Forestry lands.

While the exact cause of when and why the dispute between rancher Cliven Bundy and the BLM began, there have been several assertions from both sides which need to be looked at. First of all Mr. Bundy claims this to be a States rights issue and that the US has no jurisdiction over Nevada lands. He maintains that he ceased paying grazing fees because the BLM stopped using those fees to maintain the lands. From my personal experience I have no doubt that this is true. As to the issue of who actually has jurisdictional right over the land, I suppose that remains to be seen. At some point during this 20+ year stalemate the BLM claims that the Bundy cattle became an endangerment for the desert tortoise which is a federally protected endangered species. Personally I find this to be ludicrous as well, as the desert tortoise has existed for hundreds of years with ruminant species such as bison, elk, deer, antelope, etc. And, there are verifiable reports stating that the BLM has in fact exterminated large numbers of the tortoises themselves.

What appears to be the real root of the problem in this situation is something known as the “Regional Mitigation Strategy for the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone.” Initially there were reports this weekend that Senator Harry Reid and his son Rory were involved with a Chinese company planning to build a solar energy plant at Dry Lake. However the Chinese company backed out of this plan in June 2013. What follows here is an excerpt from an article by J.E. Dyer in Liberty Unyielding.

“The Gold Butte mitigation push is connected to the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone (SEZ).  Readers who have already waded through the BLM document recognize where I’m going here.  The BLM mitigation strategy, intended to mitigate the damage to the regional ecosystem expected from developing the Dry Lake SEZ, is to beef up environmental “protections” for Gold Butte.  As desert tortoises, and other fauna and flora, decline in the SEZ, they are to be encouraged and protected in the Gold Butte ACEC.  This may include measures like relocating desert tortoises to Gold Butte.

The crony-corruption link

Now, here’s where it gets fun.  If the Dry Lake SEZ is the impetus behind tightening exclusionary policies on Gold Butte, but that’s not where the Chinese-backed solar farm was going to be, who is proposing to invest in Dry Lake?

What do you know.  It turns out to be our old pal, crony-corruption firm extraordinaire First Solar.  A BLM document from July 2012 reflects First Solar as the only company with an active application for a solar-energy project in the Dry Lake SEZ, and in a notice in the Federal Register on 17 March 2014 (see p. 14734; p. 133 of the PDF document), BLM confirms that the First Solar application is the only one on record, “serialized as NVN-084232.”  First Solar proposes to build a 400 megawatt solar-energy plant in the Dry Lake SEZ.

First Solar, you’ll remember, is the crony firm whose chairman of the board, Michael Ahearn, bundled hundreds of thousands in political donations for Obama and other Democrats, including the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Harry Reid.  First Solar was rewarded for this special excellence with over $3 billion in taxpayer “green energy” subsidies – whereupon it laid off most of its American workers and consolidated most of its activities overseas.  The company’s stock has performed very poorly in the years since First Solar began hanging on Uncle Sam’s bootstrap, in part because of product defects that have cost hundreds of millions in customer compensation.

But a firm whose vice president has an open door to Valerie Jarrett can’t be held down for long.  First Solar unloaded its underperforming CEO in 2012, brought in James Hughes – former Enron official named as an unindicted co-conspirator in 2006 – and shifted its emphasis from manufacturing to commercial-scale energy production.  The company now has active solar energy projects in California and Nevada, including the one launched in March 2014 on the Moapa Reservation north of the Dry Lake SEZ and west of Bunkerville.

Oh, and First Solar got a nice infusion of capital in 2013, when an equity stake was taken in the company by none other than General Electric, perhaps the most equal of all the Obama cronies. (End of Excerpt)

So you see, the real rub here is that the Bundy ranch cattle are hindering the progress of crony capitalism driven by the Obama administration and Senator Harry Reid.

More importantly to my mind in this situation, is the fact that this episode has brought to light what I see as an impending showdown between federal authorities and the individual rights of citizens of these United States. During the standoff between the Bundy’s and the BLM, agents of the Bureau of Land Management established what they determined to be “First Amendment areas” within the boundaries of the BLM administered lands. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees the right of free speech. For the BLM to designate “First Amendment areas” is quite simply a blatant violation of the First Amendment. The ENTIRE US is a First Amendment area!

Increasingly, the United States government under the Obama administration is involved in a systematic effort to abrogate the rights of its citizens. From the spying efforts of the NSA, the illegal profiling of the IRS (including the corrupt complicity of a certain Democratic United States Congressman), FBI spying on legitimate members of the Press (i.e. Fox news reporters), and now this effort to limit free speech, we find a government completely out of control. In fact, the only voices this government hears are those from the radical left, the socialists, the Islamists, and the LGBT.

Conservatives, Christians, and the folks who have been the hard-working backbone of this country are finding themselves to be disenfranchised and without a voice in the national arena today. Knowing this, the only alternative we have is to stand together just as folks did this past week with the Bundy’s.

Christians, we are living in the Last Days. I have said repeatedly that I seriously doubt that America as we have known it will survive. What is needed is a national revival, not of patriotism, but a true turning back to Jesus Christ. Satan is the god of this world, and is certainly well-established within the halls of our government and our White House. Unfortunately, the time for God’s mercy is nearly at an end.

“Signs of the Times” Volcano’s, Earthquakes, Israel, Palestine, Russia, China… and More!

Since it seems to have become our custom, we will begin our update again this week with the weather.

Weather

For the first time in several weeks Washington DC and the East Coast were not affected by extreme winter weather. However hail, heavy rain, strong winds and flash floods pummeled parts of the South and the Midwest. As I noted last week these storms were predicted, but thankfully there were no deaths and very few injuries reported. Tornadoes touched down in Missouri and Texas, and large hail fell in Texas and Arkansas. The National Weather Service had been very concerned about the magnitude and intensity of the storms, but the threat did not evolve catastrophically.

By the way, Secretary of State John Kerry canceled his planned trip to Israel this past Tuesday saying the framework for peace negotiations had hit an impasse and were at risk of failing. Whew…. Relief from pressure on Israel to divide the land and storms in the US that did not reach their anticipated intensity. Are these related? In light of historical evidence it is something to consider. We’ll get back to Kerry, Israel and the Palestinians in a bit.

In Matthew 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13 we find the record of Jesus Christ’s Olivet discourse to His disciples where He prophesied of the events that were to take place before His second coming. We find written in Matthew 24:6-8: “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Obviously we are aware of ongoing wars and conflicts in nearly every part of the earth, and there are reports of food shortages and famine in many countries due to weather events and/or conflicts. And in just the last couple of weeks we have been made aware of a significant Ebola outbreak in a few West African countries. This coupled with various influenza outbreaks in China and the Far East and resurgence of polio and other viruses around the world including the United States, pestilence seems to be on the rise as well.

In fact pestilence is affecting more than the human population. There have been reports of large numbers of fish dying in lakes, streams and oceans around the world; birds both wild and domestic have seen large instances of “die off” in various parts of the world; and in the US alone it is estimated that over 40% of the nation’s swine have been lost due to a new viral disease.

So then, that brings us back to the weather and natural events. This past week we have seen a number of earthquakes around the world many ranging between 4.0 and 8.0 on the Richter scale. In fact there are some interesting numbers out of Oklahoma. From 1975 until 2008 the state of Oklahoma recorded less than six earthquakes a year. From the period between 2008 and 2012 Oklahoma recorded 278 earthquakes that registered 3.0 or greater, and in 2013 there were 222 earthquakes which registered 3.0 or greater. And now in 2014 in less than four months state of Oklahoma has registered 253 such tremors.

These numbers and percentages of increase are reflected in most states in the US, and in fact a similar percentage of increase in frequency is reported in every country and every continent around the world. And, that being the case, this increase certainly cannot be blamed on “fracking” alone, because this practice is not in use in every oil-producing country, and certainly isn’t in use in countries that do not produce oil.

And since we’re looking at seismic activity, the Earth’s crust, and natural disasters; last week seven volcanoes in six different countries began erupting within hours of each other. Volcanoes in Japan, Mexico, Vanuatu, Guatemala, Italy, and Indonesia (Mount Sinabung and Mount Merapi) all began belching lava and ash. Ash clouds from 4 to 6 miles high were reported over these volcanoes, and in some cases interrupted airline flight patterns. So many volcanoes throwing so much gas, ash and particulates into the air can have an effect on climate, this is a scientific fact. I’m not saying that these volcanoes herald the start of a new ice age but the planet certainly seems to be getting a bit more active of late.

Continued large eruptions put a huge amount of particulate matter into the atmosphere, and these particles reflect sunlight away from earth and when there is enough of them the temperatures can drop. Aside from the devastating effects the lava and ash can have on the lives of those living near to them, due to crop and property losses, and other economic factors, the global impact can be enormous. These losses can lead to many hardships including hunger and famine as is evidenced after the Tambora eruption of 1815, and the Icelandic eruption of Eyjafjallojkull in 2010.

These earthquake and volcanic spasms of the earth continue to come without warning, but at the same time these spasms should be a wakeup call to all of us that we are indeed living in perilous times, and as Christ foretold; “all these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Israel and Palestine

Well now, as I mentioned before John Kerry postponed his latest trip to the Middle East. The Secretary of State said that the United States was evaluating whether to continue its role in Middle East peace talks after claiming that both the Palestinians and Israelis had taken steps that were not helpful to the negotiations. Kerry said that it was “reality check time” because there was a limit to the amount of time United States could spend on the peace process. Saying it was important to keep the peace process moving, but that “in the end, it is up to the parties,” Kerry said; “This is not an open-ended effort, it never has been. It is reality check time, and we intend to evaluate precisely what the next steps will be.”

I wrote last week that a senior Palestinian official had admitted that the only reason the Palestinians had entered into the negotiations for peace was to secure the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners (most of whom are terrorists). This statement set off a chain of events which has led to this impasse. After hearing the comments of Palestinian official, Israel decided not to release the final 26 prisoners they were scheduled to release as a condition for these ongoing talks. Following that Mohammed Abbas signed 14 UN conventions including the Geneva Convention and has positioned the Palestinians to sign up to 25 more in an effort to move Palestine closer toward Statehood recognition by the UN.

Additionally Abbas has made new demands on the Israelis including;

  • Israeli recognition of the pre-1967 lines as the future borders of a Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
  • The release of 1,200 Palestinian prisoners.
  • Israel must release three senior-level prisoners: Marwan Barghouti, Ahmed Sa’adat and Fuad Shobaki.
  • Israel must cease settlement construction.
  • The PA is to be given sovereignty over Area C in the West Bank (the area Knesset Member Naftali Bennett wants to annex)
  • Israeli military operations must stop in PA-controlled territories and “reunion” permits are to be issued for 15,000 Palestinians.
  • The border crossings must be reopened and the blockade on the Gaza Strip lifted.
  • The Palestinian gunmen who were deported to the Gaza Strip and Europe after they sought shelter in the Nativity Church in Bethlehem must be allowed to return to the West Bank.

The Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said Wednesday the Palestinians may seek to join the International Criminal Court and more U.N. agencies if there is no progress in peace talks with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised retaliatory measures on Sunday after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas made the unilateral moves towards statehood (moves which the PA agreed it would not make while the “Peace” talks continued). While not immediately specifying what action he would take, he said Israel remained willing to press on with U.S.-brokered peace talks, but not “at any price”.

Also in Israel, the IDF struck militant targets in the Gaza Strip this past weekend after Palestinians renewed rocket fire into Israel.

Syria

Israeli security source confirms Assad regime recently used chemical weapon. According to Israeli security assessments, Syrian government forces used non-lethal substance on March 27 against rebel fighters near Damascus. Despite the assertion by the security source that the chemical is nonlethal, some reports suggested that four people were killed in the March 27 attack. The “Syria Deeply” website cited the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), a group of Syrian-American doctors and surgeons traveling in and out of Syria, as condemning what it described as a “poisonous gas attack” in Harasta.

Saudi Arabia

After President Obama’s visit with the Saudi King last week sources inside (Sunni) Saudi Arabia say it is apparent to them that the Obama administration has sided with (Shiite Iran). The Obama administrations interference in the Middle East has brought an end to Sunni controlled governments in Egypt and Libya while doing very little to end the Shiite regime of Bashar al Assad in Syria. Interestingly neither Obama and the US delegation nor the Saudis brought up the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during the talks. It is widely understood that the Saudis have adopted the idea that the enemy (Israel) of my enemy (Iran) is my friend. The Saudis are indeed as concerned that Iran may achieve nuclear capabilities as Israel is.

Russia

Meanwhile Vladimir Putin continues to take advantage of every foreign policy failure of the Obama administration. He has opened doors for communications with the Saudis, the Egyptians, and Palestinians, while maintaining his relationships with Syria and Iran.
The Russian takeover of Crimea and it’s continued presence along Ukrainian border have fostered rebellion among Russian speaking citizens of Ukraine which I believe will eventually lead to Russian takeover. Ukrainian troops have dug in at border in a stare down with Russian troops. Braced against the driving snow, fresh-faced newly conscripted Ukrainian soldiers stare over the border with Russia, waiting to attempt to fend off an invasion from Russian troops amassed on the other side.

China

As China continues to exert pressure on its neighbors in the South China Sea by claiming more and more territory, the US State Department issued a statement warning China not to attempt annexations such as that done by Russia with Crimea.
One day after China brought US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel on board its first aircraft carrier as the first foreign visitor, its defense minister warned that no one, not even the United States, could contain its military ambitions. Gen. Chang Wanquan said; “With the latest developments in China, it can never be contained,” and that the US is “a country of worldwide influence, and the Pacific Ocean is huge enough to hold both China and the US for common development and also huge enough to hold the other Asia-Pacific countries.”

Again, the Obama administration has weakened the United States in influence economically, politically, and militarily throughout the world. This my friends is another “sign of the times” (see our Blog post “Biblical Prophecy; what is still to come? ~ Part 1”).

Keep your Eyes on Israel, and keep looking for the return of our Lord because; Jesus is Coming Soon!

Signs of the Times, Israel and the Weather, Russia, Ukraine, China, Obama & Putin etc…

Once again we began our Signs of the Times Update by talking about weather and natural disaster events here in the United States.

Recovery efforts continue in Oso, Washington after the devastating mudslide that occurred there just over a week ago. As of this morning 27 bodies have been recovered 19 of them identified and the missing number revised from 30 to 22. The county medical examiner has requested funding from FEMA for 38 burials.

As I mentioned in last Tuesday’s update, I equate the disaster in Oso with other catastrophic events tied to the United States government’s continued pressure on Israel to divide its capital Jerusalem in the “land for peace” negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.

This past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, earthquakes were recorded in Los Angeles, California and West Yellowstone, Montana. The quakes in Los Angeles on Friday and Saturday measured 5.1 and 4.1 in magnitude respectively. The quakes recorded in West Yellowstone Saturday and Sunday measured 4.3 and 4.8 in magnitude respectively, the 4.8 quake on Sunday is the largest ever recorded in the West Yellowstone seismic area. In the 48 hour period from Saturday and Sunday well over 100 quakes were measured worldwide with approximately 20% of them measuring greater than 4.0 in magnitude on the Richter scale. Depending on which agency you follow this represents between a 15% and 30% increase in activity in the past 24 months.
Israel

On Monday Secretary of State John Kerry returned to Israel in an effort to salvage his “Framework for Peace” between the Israelis and Palestinians. Because the Palestinians publicly stated that the only reason they were involved in the peace process was to secure release of prisoners held by the state of Israel (most of whom are convicted terrorists), Israel has refused to release the final 23 prisoners scheduled. After brief meetings Monday Kerry left for other meetings in Europe related to the crisis in the Ukraine. However, he will return to Israel on Wednesday with plans to meet with officials from both the Israeli government and Palestinian Authority. The schedule calls for him to press for a resumption of the peace process and extend the deadline for an additional six months, and to include the release by Israel of an additional 400 prisoners. This demand on the Israeli government has caused division within Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government and in fact threatens its collapse. Over the weekend Naftali Bennett of the Israeli Home’s party said of the prisoner release “that isn’t going to happen.”

RELATED: This headline from the National Weather Service, “People of the Plains will need to keep an eye on the weather this week for a multiple-day severe thunderstorm outbreak that will be complete with tornadoes.” The article continues by saying, a couple of slow-moving storm systems will be responsible for multiple rounds of severe weather through Friday. During the period between Wednesday and Thursday in addition to the tornado threat there exists the potential for numerous thunderstorms capable of producing extreme downpours, damaging winds and large hail. Cities likely to be affected by the severe weather outbreak include Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma; Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco and Tyler, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Fayetteville, Fort Smith and Little Rock, Arkansas; Joplin, Springfield and Lebanon, Missouri.

Once again, if you’re wondering why I relate the weather forecast to the United States continued efforts to force Israel into a compromising peace process you would do well to read Joel chapter 3, and Genesis 12:3. As I have said before, there is documented evidence over the past 25 years that correlates significant weather events and natural disasters in the United States with our governments continued pressure on Israel to exchange land for peace. Again I suggest you go to Amazon and purchase a copy of “Eye to Eye” by William Koenig.

There is much more that I could speak about in detail in today’s update, but I will only give you a brief overview.

President Obama at The Hague

In making comments about his concern over the situation between Russia and the Ukraine, President Obama said that he was more concerned over the possibility of a nuclear explosion in Manhattan than he was the events in the Ukraine. Donald Trump remarked that that was the stupidest comment he had ever heard made by a United States President, and that effectively Obama had put a target on Manhattan and New York City for terrorist attack. Personally, I agree with everything Trump said.

Presidential Travels

Over the weekend the President visited the Vatican and Pope Francis. While the President said they did not discuss social matters, the Vatican reported that there discussion was primarily over social matters. Apparently, Obama still only hears what he wants to hear.

The President then visited with King Abdullah in Saudi Arabia. This trip was to try to reassure the Saudis that the President was serious about his commitment to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. King Abdullah is the religious leader of all of the Sunni Muslims. President Obama on the other hand has continually shown his support for those of the Shiite faith. Including of course the Muslim Brotherhood. The Saudis continue to distrust Obama because of his role in the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak’s government in Egypt and his sport of the Muslim brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi. Because the Obama administration pulled military funding from Egypt after Morsi’s removal, Saudi Arabia and Russia have stepped in to support Egypt’s military government.

Russia and the Ukraine

As Russia continues to solidify its position in Crimea, not only have they occupied all of the military bases, they have completed their takeover of the Ukrainian naval forces. Tens of thousands of Russian troops still are amassed on the Ukrainian border, and Vladimir Putin has announced that he expects Ukraine to willingly become a part of the Russian Federation. Russia warned of the Ukraine against any move towards integration with NATO explaining that to do so would have unwelcome consequences.
President Obama and his administration continue their ineffective rhetoric against Putin and Russia. Both the President and Secretary of State Kerry have stated that this is not the way civilized leaders and nations act in the 21st century, and that Putin is acting as if he were in the 19th century. They seem not to be able to understand his actions, in that they do not align with the fantasy world that Obama and Kerry seem to occupy.

Russia, by the way, has continued to state its desire to “protect and defend” Russian speaking peoples in all of the former Soviet satellites.

Meanwhile the United States and its allies have made it clear that they have no military plans to defend the Ukraine but that they will defend their Eastern European NATO allies who have joined in the past 15 years.

North and South Korea

In an escalation of tensions on the Korean Peninsula North and South Korea exchanged the firing of hundreds of missiles into each other’s territorial waters forcing residents of five South Korean islands to seek shelter during the exchange.

China

As I mentioned last week the United States and the international community’s weakness in dealing with Ukrainian crisis has emboldened China in its claims in the South China Sea. China has now extended its claims to hundreds of islands and reefs along with millions of square miles of ocean from Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam, and is claiming most of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. While China cannot claim to be protecting and defending Chinese speaking peoples, Edward N. Luttwak of the Center for Strategic and International Studies stated that China may be willing to affect the takeover and annexation of these disputed territories before the usual cycle of American politics replaces Obama with a more activist President.

This past week the Chinese attempted to blockade a Philippine vessel that was rotating troops on a remote reef in the South China Sea. The two-hour standoff is the most recent in the pattern of aggression and intimidation the Chinese Navy is using to assert authority over the disputed territories. United States State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf call the action “provocative and destabilizing” and further stated that; “As a treaty ally of the Republic of the Philippines, the United States urges China to refrain from further provocative behavior by allowing the Philippines to continue to maintain its presence at Second Thomas Shoal.” I have no doubt that made the Chinese shake in their boots. Ah well… I’m certain the President views these actions is unacceptable in the 21st century as well.

Friends if you have not done so, I would encourage you to read our post “Biblical Prophecy; what is still to come? ~ Part 1”, posted on March 27. There you will find my position on the United States in the Last Days and End Times. As we continue to watch the events transpiring in the world today, it is increasingly apparent to this commentator that Biblical Prophecy is being fulfilled and that the return of Jesus Christ for His Church is indeed imminent. That being the case, the Tribulation spoken of in the Revelation of Jesus Christ is close at hand. As followers of Jesus Christ we need to be proactive in our efforts to share the Gospel with friends, family, and everyone we meet. With an eye on Israel, being aware of the things to come, we listen for the sound of the trumpet which signals the Rapture of the Church!

Jesus is Coming Soon!
