Economic Crisis or World Government?

It is a well-known fact that many of the global elite have long believed that a global economic crisis could be a major step toward the establishment of a New World Order (one-world government).

For example, as far back as 1994, David Rockefeller said, “We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order.” He didn’t identify what this needed “major crisis” would be—but others have indicated that they think a major economic crisis would work.

In 2008, Prime Minister Gordon Brown of England said, “The international financial crisis has given world leaders a unique opportunity to create a truly global society.” Think about it! The Prime Minister of England thought the devastating financial crisis that started in 2008 was a unique opportunity to create a world government.

That is similar to Rham’s Rule (named after Rham Emanuel Pres. Obama’s former Chief of Staff). Simply put: Politicians should use crises to push through unpopular legislation or programs that people wouldn’t accept under normal circumstances. They should use a crisis to do their will instead of the will of the people.

In 2012, Nigel Farage, a member of the EU Parliament said:

It is very, very difficult to ignore those voices, who have been telling me for twenty years that behind all of this [the economic crisis] there are a group of people that want to create “a one world government.” I’ve tried to ignore those arguments and say, “Look, let’s not be too conspiratorial about this.” But goodness me its [a one world government ] beginning to stare us in the face.

It really started staring us in the face in November 2014. That is when the world’s so-called, too-big-to-fail banks (J.P. Morgan, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs Group, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley) got the G-20 to pass legislation that shifts the liability for bank failures from the banks to the bank depositors.
If that kind of legislation at that level is not a clear indication that the world’s largest banks are expecting a global economic crisis, I don’t know what is. The heads of those banks want their depositors and not themselves to be held liable for future bank failures.

About that same time (the fall of 2008), the price of oil was dropping and the economies of Russia, Iran, Venezuela and several African nations were feeling the impact. In many ways, the lower price of gasoline was a good thing for American citizens. But now we are hearing that the economies of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and North Dakota could be in trouble.

Falling oil prices are cutting into the profits of American companies. Some are losing money because they can’t get oil out of the ground as cheaply as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iraq and others. Some have stopped purchasing oil permits for new wells. Some are considering large layoffs. Some are having trouble paying the interest on borrowed money. Some won’t have profits to pay stockholders.

And this is spilling over into other sectors of the American economy. American companies need less pipe, fewer pumps, fewer motors, etc. The companies that make these things need fewer employees. And on and on the downward cycle goes.

This is the point: There are powerful people who want a world government and believe a crisis—perhaps an economic crisis— is needed to force through public acceptance. The so-called, too-big-to-fail banks have pushed through legislation to shift the liability for major bank failures. The price of oil has dropped sharply, and although not all agree, some think an economic crisis could be looming.

Finally, the U.S. President is one of those Globalists who wants a world government. Some, such as Henry Kissinger, are even hoping that Pres. Obama will head it up. And if something doesn’t happen to change the situation, Pres. Obama will be out of office in the next two years. We are living in interesting times.

Is God Turning the Bear?

For about 70 years, between 1920 and 1970, the USSR was ever expanding. Soviet leaders gobbled up Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Poland, part of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, East Germany, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia and much more.

In the early 90s, some nations rebelled and demanded their independence. Soviet leaders tried to hold the union together, but the rebellion spread, the Soviets lost their power and the USSR fell apart.

Some political leaders thought the collapse of the Soviet Union meant that the world had entered a new era of peace, but by the end of the decade a former KGB agent named Vladimir Putin had risen to power and become the acting president of Russia.

He went on to become president, then prime minister and then president again. He changed laws, consolidated his power, cracked down on his opposition, rebuilt the military, developed close ties with Iran and quietly nurtured the dream of restoring the old Soviet Union. Some even said he also wanted to take over all of Europe.

Mr. Putin liked to present himself as a strongman and his desire to restore the old USSR troubled some of the former Soviet Union nations. His intervention in Georgia, Kyrgystan, Ukraine, his annexation of Crimea and the fact that he threatened to use Russian power outside Russia’s borders made them nervous.

Several of those former USSR nations joined, or tried to join NATO, primarily for protection. They had broken away from the old power-hungry bear and they didn’t want to be subjugated and forced back in.

About eight months ago when Mr. Putin took over Crimea, western leaders finally decided that he had gone too far and he needed to be turned around. They demanded that he stop supporting the opposition forces in Crimea and threatened to impose sanctions on Russia if he didn’t turn around and leave. Their initial sanctions were virtually meaningless and Mr. Putin scoffed at them, but western leaders continued to ramp up the sanctions and the bear began to hurt.

Almost overnight, there was a global glut of oil triggered by an economic downturn in Asia and Europe, fracking for oil in the U.S. and stepped up production of oil in Saudi Arabia. The price of oil quickly dropped from more than $100 per barrel to less than $60 per barrel. The Russian Ruble collapsed, the Russian economy went into a tailspin, and Russia was suddenly facing the prospects of a recession or possibly a depression.

The looming economic disaster and the likelihood that the Russian people might eventually rebel got Mr. Putin’s attention. He now appears to be looking for a way to save face, turn around and leave Crimea. But he has promised the Russian people that he will retaliate against those who have imposed sanctions on Russia and he has promised that he will solve Russia’s economic problems in the next two years.

The Russian bear’s actions made me think of the battle of Gog and Magog. Gog will try to expand his kingdom in the latter days and latter years. But God said, “I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth” (Ezek. 38:4).

Is Mr. Putin Gog? Is God turning Gog around? How will Gog retaliate? I don’t think anyone knows. We can only say that Russia must turn away from one target before God pulls her toward a second target (Israel).

God also said, “It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought” (Ezek. 38:10).

What is this evil thought? The Bible doesn’t say but it appears to be:

“To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land” (Ezek. 38:12).

And some would add, “To satisfy the ancient Islamic hatred for Israel.”

I don’t know what Mr. Putin was thinking when he told the Russian people he will solve Russia’s economic problems in the next two years, but China and India have offered to help Russia so it will take a little time for Russia’s recession to reach full bloom.

Israel has acquired phenomenal wealth with minerals from the Dead Sea, oil and natural gas, agricultural success, cattle and goods; and Mr. Putin has not been reluctant to steal from other countries. We don’t know when it will happen, but many would not be surprised to see the battle of Gog and Magog in the next two years.

A wounded bear is dangerous and this wounded bear may not be ready to go away. He may turn around and seek a different prey. But regardless of anything I have written, what he has been trying to do to Israel will be done to him. He will become the prey and God will be known in the eyes of many nations (Obad. 1:15; Ezek. 38:23; 39:17-20).

You’re No Benjamin Netanyahu

Every week God has given me the great privilege of addressing a small group of people who love Bible prophecy.  I was with the group recently when someone mentioned that a senior official in the Obama Administration said, “The thing about Bibi is he’s a chickens**t.”  Suddenly, a very nice Christian lady in the group said, “It takes one to know one and that can be your next article.”

My mind was flooded with childhood memories. Someone would say, “You’re a coward” and the standard reply was, “It takes one to know one.” “You’re a Fraidy Cat!” “It takes one to know one.” “You’re chickens**t.” “It takes one to know one.”

I went to work on this article, but it occurred to me that President Obama’s senior official stepped in it— but he doesn’t know chicken manure when he sees it. He may be the fowl hen-house refuse he called Benjamin Netanyahu, but the Israeli Prime Minister is nothing like what the Obama Administration official said.

Mr. Netanyahu joined the IDF, became a member of Israel’s Special Forces, led commando raids into enemy territory, was twice wounded in combat and discharged as a captain— in perhaps the greatest military on earth. He is a man of courage and character, which no reasonable man would relate to chicken manure.

This is when my thoughts turned to the 1988 vice-presidential debate between two U.S. Senators: Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) and Dan Quayle (R-IND). During that famous debate, Mr. Quayle, a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Senate, compared himself to John F. Kennedy, a 14-year veteran of the U.S. Senate. Mr. Bentsen responded by looking at Mr. Quayle and saying, “I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.”

This is the point: Many people have served with Benjamin Netanyahu. Many people know Benjamin Netanyahu. Many people call Benjamin Netanyahu their friend. And it is clear that the Obama Administration official is no Benjamin Netanyahu.  He is not even worthy to unloose the strings in Benjamin Netanyahu’s shoes. His foul-mouthed, mean-spirited, undiplomatic name-calling has dishonored the once-great nation he is supposed to represent.

Having said this, I am not surprised that this foul-mouthed White House  senior official bashed Mr. Netanyahu and it won’t surprise me if he, and others continue to do so. President Obama has prepped the White House with members of the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that has ties to Hamas. His Senior Advisor, Valerie Jarrett, was born in Iran. Obama has already snubbed and bashed Mr. Netanyahu several times. He treats our enemies better than he treats our friends. And, most importantly—a further deterioration of U.S.-Israeli relations actually fits Bible prophecy.

The U.S. and our messianic Secretary of State, John Kerry, are obsessed with bullying Israel into signing a peace treaty on PA terms. A treaty on PA terms will divide Jerusalem, give away the West Bank, stop Jewish construction on the West Bank (including construction of the Temple), threaten the existence of Israel and get nothing in return. Mr. Netanyahu will never accept this so the tension between the U.S. and Israel will continue to grow. It has to happen because the entire world will be against Israel during the Tribulation period.

And then there is the Battle of Gog and Magog (Ezek. 38-39). Many think it is drawing near because the IAEA and Israeli intelligence say Iran could have the ability to produce nuclear weapons in a matter of months. But Mr. Netanyahu has often said he won’t let Iran get nuclear weapons.

The U.S. and five others are supposed to be negotiating with Iran to get her to abandon her nuclear weapons program, but the news is full of reports that America and her allies have made major concessions to Iran (chickened out; forgive me, I couldn’t resist ) without getting anything in return.

We will soon know how this turns out, but it is a dangerous situation that may force Israel to act in a way that Mr. Obama won’t like, and he gets his arrogant feathers ruffled (and he retaliates), when anyone goes against him.

When the battle of Gog and Magog takes place, God said, “Sheba, and Dedan (cities in Saudi Arabia), and the merchants of Tarshish (perhaps England), with all the young lions thereof (perhaps the U.S., Canada and others), “Shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?” (Ezek. 38:13). Put another way: Saudi Arabia, perhaps England and perhaps the U.S. will just stand around, ask questions and do nothing to help Israel. That’s okay. God will get the glory when Gog and his armies are destroyed on the mountains of Israel.

(Note: After this article was written, Mr. Kerry apologized to Mr. Netanyahu, but I have seen no reports that anyone in the Obama Administration has been held accountable.)

 Editors Note:

While we at Rafter Cross Ministries agree with the main focus of this article, I feel the need to point out that we disagree with Daymond’s statement in the last paragraph that the possible identity of the “Merchants of Tarshish” and the “Young Lions thereof” refers to “(perhaps England)” and “(perhaps the U.S., Canada and others).”

Tarshish is mentioned 24 times in the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible in various contexts (most notably as the place to which Jonah attempted to flee from God), and as a place-name it refers to an ancient city or country along the seafaring Phoenicians trade routes. The three possible locations are: 1) Carthage in North African Tunisia, 2) the western Mediterranean island of Sardinia, or 3) the city of Tartessos in Southern Spain, variously associated with Cadiz on the Atlantic coast or Carthago Nova on the Mediterranean coast.

The error that the “Merchants of Tarshish” and the “Young Lions thereof” are associated with England and her colonial territories is not supported by any empirical evidence, rather it is associated with the fanciful teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong (1892-1986) which claimed that England and her colonies are the “10 Lost Tribes” of Israel (which are not lost, as has been conclusively demonstrated by DNA evidence in modern Israel). This error has been repeated recently by those who continue to “westernize” the scripture desiring to establish a position for the U.S. in the End Times prophecies.

It is our position that the U.S. as a nation is in fact NOT mentioned anywhere in the scripture, which in fact is because the U.S. will have lost relevance on the world stage (the accomplishing of which President Obama is certainly rapidly facilitating) as the End Times approach.

Mr. Kerry’s False Hope

“What is the greatest problem in the Middle East?” If you were a multi-millionaire with a degree from Yale University and another degree from Boston College Law School with an annual salary—close to $200,000, and you worked for the President of the United States, and you supervised about 12,000 people, and you had years of government experience, do you think you could come close to the right answer?

Would your answer be the greatest problem in the Middle East is the Islamic State? They have attacked Iraq, Syria, and the Kurds; threatened Israel, Saudi Arabia and Jordan; captured cities, robbed banks, burned churches; raped women and young girls; beheaded people, crucified people, buried people alive; sold women and children into slavery; forced people to pay for protection and starved people to death. They have practiced ethnic cleansing, religious cleansing, forced women into second class citizenship and more.

Would your answer be the greatest problem in the Middle East is the civil war in Syria? As of September 2014, the death toll surpassed 200,000 people. Nine and one-half million people have been forcefully displaced. Three million people have fled the country. Hundreds of thousands live in the squalor of cold tents and go to bed hungry.

Thousands have been tortured, thousands have disappeared, thousands of women have been raped, many men and women have been chained naked to walls and beds, many don’t have enough food or medicine. Chemical weapons have been used and one UN official, Paulo Sergio Pinhero, said, “I have run out of words to depict the gravity of the crimes depicted inside Syria.”

Would your answer be the greatest problem in the Middle East is Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons? Iran calls Israel a one-bomb nation because Iran believes one nuclear bomb is all that is needed to wipe Israel off the map. Iran says if we can make a nuclear bomb, will use it on Israel (and some say Saudi Arabia too).

Israel says she won’t let Iran get a nuclear bomb; Israel budgeted money two years in a row for a war with Iran; Israel increased her military spending to upgrade her air force in 2015. Russia says an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities would be considered an attack on Moscow, it would heighten the prospect of WW III, and it could lead to the use of nuclear weapons.

Would your answer be the greatest problem in the Middle East is the religious conflict the different groups of Muslims: Sunnis against Alawites; Sunnis against Shiites; Sunnis against Kurds; Sunnis against Yazidis, etc? The civil war in Syria is a war between the majority Sunni population and the minority Alawite population. The Islamic State’s war with Iraq is primarily a war between Sunnis and Shiites, but the Sunnis are also killing the Yazidis and Kurds.

You see, every one of these Muslim sects believes their sect is the only true sect and every one of them believes all of the other sects are pagans. All of them believe they have a religious responsibility to kill pagans and they believe the sect that follows the true Islamic religion will be the last one standing. So even though all of them have people that kill Christians, Jews and others it is a fact that Muslims kill more Muslims than anyone else.

More could be said, but it is time to get to the point. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was recently asked about the greatest problem in the Middle East and according to him it is not the Islamic State, Syria’s civil war, Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons or the religious conflict between Muslims. Mr. Kerry believes the greatest problem in the Middle East is the conflict between Israel and the PA. He even seems to believe that all of the problems in the Middle East can be solved if Israel will just agree to a peace treaty on the PA’s terms.

This is the real Jayvee team in action. Mr. Kerry actually believes the conflict between Israel and the PA is worse than the 200,000 killed in Syria, the nine and one-half million displaced there; the Islamic State beheadings, slavery, rape of women, killing of children; the Russian threat of WW III and the use of nuclear weapons; the multitudes killed in the Islamic religious wars, etc. It is incredible, but he believes that all of these wars, killings, murders, rapes and starvations are directly related to Israel’s refusal to sign a peace treaty on the PA’s terms despite the fact that the roots of these conflicts precede the existence of Israel and the PA.

According to what I have read, Mr. Kerry is probably worth somewhere between 200 and 300 million dollars and his wife Teresa is probably worth somewhere between 165 million and 3.2 billion dollars. So Mr. Kerry doesn’t need a refund on his education at Yale or the Boston College Law School, but his total lack of common sense and his incredible inability to understand the situation indicates that he wasted his money.

His false hope that all of the problems in the Middle East can be solved by forcing Israel to accept a peace treaty on the PA’s terms is misguided. If that treaty gets confirmed while Mr. Kerry is still alive, he will probably shout “peace and safety.” But when those famous words are shouted the problems in the Middle East will make the current situation seem like child’s play.

Israel ~ “Palestine” and a failure to make peace! Nearing Midnight!

Every day as I open God’s Word to study, I am increasingly more aware that the world in which we now live, is truly nearing midnight in God’s prophetic time. In an earlier post I stated that Israel is God’s timepiece, and in fact the restoration of Israel to her homeland and the reestablishment of Jerusalem as her capital is the “super sign” of God’s prophetic “Last Days.” Each week as I scan the headlines of the many Internet news organizations around the world, I attempt to view the events reported on in the perspective and light of biblical prophecy. In doing so, it is apparent to me that we see evidence of the prophetic “Signs of the Times” being fulfilled in our lifetime. And so, my Tuesday post usually involves commentary and analysis on these events worldwide. While I could (and maybe should) continue in that pattern, today I instead want to focus on Israel.

We have established God’s prophetic plan for Israel, and His eternal covenant relationship with the Jews, in some of our past teaching posts on this blog (I certainly hope you have or will read the past posts), and we will continue that teaching in future posts. However, today were going to focus on the recent events in the “peace process” between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Almost immediately after his confirmation as US Secretary of State, John Kerry announced that he, on the behalf of the Obama administration, would once again initiate a dialogue between the nation-state of Israel and the Palestinian Authority to establish a lasting peace involving a two state solution which would allow the Palestinian Authority to achieve nation-state status. Kerry’s boast was that this would be accomplished in a nine-month timeframe. The nine months have come and gone, and the result is the same failure that has been experienced by every US administration since the Palestinians best friend, Jimmy Carter, was president. The reasons for the most recent failure are the very same reasons that these negotiations have failed for the past 40 years. They are very basic:

• The “Palestinians” (who are not a nationality, but an amalgamation of Arabic speaking people’s from the surrounding countries of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and others; and have been disenfranchised by their own people) along with every other Arab nation continue to refuse to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Nation State.

• The “Palestinians” along with most of the UN member nations (now including the US under the leadership of Barack Obama) would at the very least require Israel to divide Jerusalem, putting part of it under the control of the PA for their capital (while nearly all of the rest of the world, including the US, refuses to acknowledge Jerusalem as Israel’s capital).

• The “Palestinians” along with the UN, EU, and now the US have called for Israel to return to their pre-1967 borders (effectively the border established at the end of their war for Independence in 1949). Borders which are patently indefensible (and absolutely everyone including Israel understands this).

• The “Palestinians” continue to refuse to renounce terrorism, and in fact preach and teach intifada in their “schools” which are in fact hate filled terrorist training academies.

With the impending collapse of these most recent talks, Mohammed Abbas (through his political infrastructure), leaked information stating that if Israel did not accede to their demands (demands which included the release of up to 400 more convicted Palestinian terrorists), or if the US was unable to pressure Israel into doing so, Abbas was ready to cancel the Oslo Accords and disband the PA. This would effectively re-institute the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization). This news was met with consternation by the US State Department, while the Israeli government simply stated that if that was Abbas’s desire they would do nothing to stop him. A spokesperson for the US State Department said that this was unacceptable as the United States and the international community had invested millions of dollars in the Palestinian Authority and these negotiations. Israel on the other hand let it be known that they were more than able to handle the security problems which might arise if the PA were disbanded. I am of the opinion, and I’m certain that it’s the opinion of the Israeli government, that the Nation State of Israel would in fact be much more secure without any help from the Palestinian Authority.

The day after the PA made this announcement they began to backtrack saying that this information had not come from the PA or Mohammed Abbas. And then immediately, they announced negotiations between the PA and Hamas, which control Gaza, to reunify as one political entity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said of these developments (after rockets had been fired from Gaza into Israel); “Today we see the Palestinian Authority, which yesterday spoke about disbanding, talking with Hamas about unity. They should decide whether they want to disband or have unity, and when they want peace, they should let us know,” he then added; “on our holiday today, our enemies fired missiles at our communities and our policy is clear — to respond quickly and strongly. We strike at whoever comes to attack us. This is what we have done and this is what we will do.” His statement obviously shows resolve and an unwillingness to cave in to the demands of terrorists. Naftali Bennett, Israel’s finance minister told reporters; “Israel does not negotiate with a gun to its head.”

Fundamentally you must understand, that Mohammed Abbas has no intention of dismantling the PA. He and his cronies have amassed extreme personal wealth by stealing from the funds supplied to the Palestinian Authority, from the United States, the European Union, the UN, Saudi Arabia, and other Arabic states. Disbanding the PA would not only kill his “Cash Cow,” but it would also almost certainly signal an end to his political power in the Palestinian territory. While the vacuum resulting from a disbanded PA might cause short-term security issues for Israel, it would certainly spell the end of the PLO, throwing open the doors for other jihadist organizations to gain more control.

God’s eternal promise to Israel in Genesis 12:2&3 states; “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Unfortunately, it is apparent that very few people (especially those in the Obama administration and the US State Department) open the Word of God and read it today.

God’s hand is on Israel, and at some point in the future (during the Tribulation described in the Revelation of Jesus Christ) He Himself will deal with the nation of Israel and then redeem His chosen people the Jews. Until that time any nation interfering in God’s plan for Israel will face His wrath up to and including complete destruction.

We are living in the Last Days, God’s prophetic time clock continues its march toward midnight for this fallen world, and each person on the face of this earth should be making preparation to either accept God’s free gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ or face His wrath, judgment and eternal damnation.

“Signs of the Times” Volcano’s, Earthquakes, Israel, Palestine, Russia, China… and More!

Since it seems to have become our custom, we will begin our update again this week with the weather.

Weather

For the first time in several weeks Washington DC and the East Coast were not affected by extreme winter weather. However hail, heavy rain, strong winds and flash floods pummeled parts of the South and the Midwest. As I noted last week these storms were predicted, but thankfully there were no deaths and very few injuries reported. Tornadoes touched down in Missouri and Texas, and large hail fell in Texas and Arkansas. The National Weather Service had been very concerned about the magnitude and intensity of the storms, but the threat did not evolve catastrophically.

By the way, Secretary of State John Kerry canceled his planned trip to Israel this past Tuesday saying the framework for peace negotiations had hit an impasse and were at risk of failing. Whew…. Relief from pressure on Israel to divide the land and storms in the US that did not reach their anticipated intensity. Are these related? In light of historical evidence it is something to consider. We’ll get back to Kerry, Israel and the Palestinians in a bit.

In Matthew 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13 we find the record of Jesus Christ’s Olivet discourse to His disciples where He prophesied of the events that were to take place before His second coming. We find written in Matthew 24:6-8: “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Obviously we are aware of ongoing wars and conflicts in nearly every part of the earth, and there are reports of food shortages and famine in many countries due to weather events and/or conflicts. And in just the last couple of weeks we have been made aware of a significant Ebola outbreak in a few West African countries. This coupled with various influenza outbreaks in China and the Far East and resurgence of polio and other viruses around the world including the United States, pestilence seems to be on the rise as well.

In fact pestilence is affecting more than the human population. There have been reports of large numbers of fish dying in lakes, streams and oceans around the world; birds both wild and domestic have seen large instances of “die off” in various parts of the world; and in the US alone it is estimated that over 40% of the nation’s swine have been lost due to a new viral disease.

So then, that brings us back to the weather and natural events. This past week we have seen a number of earthquakes around the world many ranging between 4.0 and 8.0 on the Richter scale. In fact there are some interesting numbers out of Oklahoma. From 1975 until 2008 the state of Oklahoma recorded less than six earthquakes a year. From the period between 2008 and 2012 Oklahoma recorded 278 earthquakes that registered 3.0 or greater, and in 2013 there were 222 earthquakes which registered 3.0 or greater. And now in 2014 in less than four months state of Oklahoma has registered 253 such tremors.

These numbers and percentages of increase are reflected in most states in the US, and in fact a similar percentage of increase in frequency is reported in every country and every continent around the world. And, that being the case, this increase certainly cannot be blamed on “fracking” alone, because this practice is not in use in every oil-producing country, and certainly isn’t in use in countries that do not produce oil.

And since we’re looking at seismic activity, the Earth’s crust, and natural disasters; last week seven volcanoes in six different countries began erupting within hours of each other. Volcanoes in Japan, Mexico, Vanuatu, Guatemala, Italy, and Indonesia (Mount Sinabung and Mount Merapi) all began belching lava and ash. Ash clouds from 4 to 6 miles high were reported over these volcanoes, and in some cases interrupted airline flight patterns. So many volcanoes throwing so much gas, ash and particulates into the air can have an effect on climate, this is a scientific fact. I’m not saying that these volcanoes herald the start of a new ice age but the planet certainly seems to be getting a bit more active of late.

Continued large eruptions put a huge amount of particulate matter into the atmosphere, and these particles reflect sunlight away from earth and when there is enough of them the temperatures can drop. Aside from the devastating effects the lava and ash can have on the lives of those living near to them, due to crop and property losses, and other economic factors, the global impact can be enormous. These losses can lead to many hardships including hunger and famine as is evidenced after the Tambora eruption of 1815, and the Icelandic eruption of Eyjafjallojkull in 2010.

These earthquake and volcanic spasms of the earth continue to come without warning, but at the same time these spasms should be a wakeup call to all of us that we are indeed living in perilous times, and as Christ foretold; “all these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Israel and Palestine

Well now, as I mentioned before John Kerry postponed his latest trip to the Middle East. The Secretary of State said that the United States was evaluating whether to continue its role in Middle East peace talks after claiming that both the Palestinians and Israelis had taken steps that were not helpful to the negotiations. Kerry said that it was “reality check time” because there was a limit to the amount of time United States could spend on the peace process. Saying it was important to keep the peace process moving, but that “in the end, it is up to the parties,” Kerry said; “This is not an open-ended effort, it never has been. It is reality check time, and we intend to evaluate precisely what the next steps will be.”

I wrote last week that a senior Palestinian official had admitted that the only reason the Palestinians had entered into the negotiations for peace was to secure the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners (most of whom are terrorists). This statement set off a chain of events which has led to this impasse. After hearing the comments of Palestinian official, Israel decided not to release the final 26 prisoners they were scheduled to release as a condition for these ongoing talks. Following that Mohammed Abbas signed 14 UN conventions including the Geneva Convention and has positioned the Palestinians to sign up to 25 more in an effort to move Palestine closer toward Statehood recognition by the UN.

Additionally Abbas has made new demands on the Israelis including;

  • Israeli recognition of the pre-1967 lines as the future borders of a Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
  • The release of 1,200 Palestinian prisoners.
  • Israel must release three senior-level prisoners: Marwan Barghouti, Ahmed Sa’adat and Fuad Shobaki.
  • Israel must cease settlement construction.
  • The PA is to be given sovereignty over Area C in the West Bank (the area Knesset Member Naftali Bennett wants to annex)
  • Israeli military operations must stop in PA-controlled territories and “reunion” permits are to be issued for 15,000 Palestinians.
  • The border crossings must be reopened and the blockade on the Gaza Strip lifted.
  • The Palestinian gunmen who were deported to the Gaza Strip and Europe after they sought shelter in the Nativity Church in Bethlehem must be allowed to return to the West Bank.

The Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said Wednesday the Palestinians may seek to join the International Criminal Court and more U.N. agencies if there is no progress in peace talks with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised retaliatory measures on Sunday after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas made the unilateral moves towards statehood (moves which the PA agreed it would not make while the “Peace” talks continued). While not immediately specifying what action he would take, he said Israel remained willing to press on with U.S.-brokered peace talks, but not “at any price”.

Also in Israel, the IDF struck militant targets in the Gaza Strip this past weekend after Palestinians renewed rocket fire into Israel.

Syria

Israeli security source confirms Assad regime recently used chemical weapon. According to Israeli security assessments, Syrian government forces used non-lethal substance on March 27 against rebel fighters near Damascus. Despite the assertion by the security source that the chemical is nonlethal, some reports suggested that four people were killed in the March 27 attack. The “Syria Deeply” website cited the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), a group of Syrian-American doctors and surgeons traveling in and out of Syria, as condemning what it described as a “poisonous gas attack” in Harasta.

Saudi Arabia

After President Obama’s visit with the Saudi King last week sources inside (Sunni) Saudi Arabia say it is apparent to them that the Obama administration has sided with (Shiite Iran). The Obama administrations interference in the Middle East has brought an end to Sunni controlled governments in Egypt and Libya while doing very little to end the Shiite regime of Bashar al Assad in Syria. Interestingly neither Obama and the US delegation nor the Saudis brought up the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during the talks. It is widely understood that the Saudis have adopted the idea that the enemy (Israel) of my enemy (Iran) is my friend. The Saudis are indeed as concerned that Iran may achieve nuclear capabilities as Israel is.

Russia

Meanwhile Vladimir Putin continues to take advantage of every foreign policy failure of the Obama administration. He has opened doors for communications with the Saudis, the Egyptians, and Palestinians, while maintaining his relationships with Syria and Iran.
The Russian takeover of Crimea and it’s continued presence along Ukrainian border have fostered rebellion among Russian speaking citizens of Ukraine which I believe will eventually lead to Russian takeover. Ukrainian troops have dug in at border in a stare down with Russian troops. Braced against the driving snow, fresh-faced newly conscripted Ukrainian soldiers stare over the border with Russia, waiting to attempt to fend off an invasion from Russian troops amassed on the other side.

China

As China continues to exert pressure on its neighbors in the South China Sea by claiming more and more territory, the US State Department issued a statement warning China not to attempt annexations such as that done by Russia with Crimea.
One day after China brought US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel on board its first aircraft carrier as the first foreign visitor, its defense minister warned that no one, not even the United States, could contain its military ambitions. Gen. Chang Wanquan said; “With the latest developments in China, it can never be contained,” and that the US is “a country of worldwide influence, and the Pacific Ocean is huge enough to hold both China and the US for common development and also huge enough to hold the other Asia-Pacific countries.”

Again, the Obama administration has weakened the United States in influence economically, politically, and militarily throughout the world. This my friends is another “sign of the times” (see our Blog post “Biblical Prophecy; what is still to come? ~ Part 1”).

Keep your Eyes on Israel, and keep looking for the return of our Lord because; Jesus is Coming Soon!
