Speak the Truth in Love, Becoming an Effective Witness

In these Last Days our responsibility to be witnesses for Jesus Christ grows more important than it perhaps has ever been. We are living in a time when civility, morality, and godliness have been abandoned and are in fact ridiculed. As followers of Christ we must be boldly standing for the Truth of Scripture and Speaking Truth in such a way as to show mankind that Jesus Loves them and desires a relationship with them.

How do we do this?

• First we must be willing to let Christ have complete control over us to the point that we can say as the Apostle Paul did; “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 Paul understood that by surrendering his will to Christ’s will, he would be used of God to bring others into a relationship with Christ. In Romans 12:1&2 Paul wrote; “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

In order to be Witnesses for Christ we must be willing to let Christ not only use us, but have preeminence in our lives. We must be willing to personally live within His will, turning away from all sin. The allure of the world should not cause us to desire to turn from our calling, because Christ has replaced self in our lives. We must give Him absolute lordship over our desires, thoughts and actions. Daily we must be growing in grace, desiring to be more Christ-like, having the Mind of Christ, in order to accomplish His will for our lives… to be Witnesses.

• Second we must have a Christ-like love for Lost Souls. In Romans 5:8 we read; “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Christ shed His own blood for the Lost, and at one point that included you and I. How much less should we love the lost? 2 Peter 3:9 tells us; “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” Jesus desires that all men to come to Him, and we should have that same desire.

Too often we tend to turn away from being a Witness because of the way someone looks or acts. My Grandfather, R.H. Marlin, once said: “If we understand and believe that God is the Blessed creator of all things, then we can never see anyone as ugly or unredeemable. Everyone’s Soul is important to Jesus, because He loves us, we must love them.” Jesus Loves the Lost! So must you and I if we are to be effective Witnesses.

• The third thing we must do to be effective Witnesses is to have a working knowledge of the Scriptures. God’s Word is what brings men to Christ, it is the instrument He has provided to us, which He uses to convict sin, reveal Christ, and regenerate a lost Soul. In Romans 1:16 Paul writes; “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” So, we are told to know and use the Word of God. In 2 Timothy 2:15 we are instructed to; “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We can only be “rightly dividing” the Word when we are actively studying the Word.

We need to know how to use Scripture to show those who are Lost:

o They need a Savior (Romans 3:10-12; Romans 6:23)
o Jesus is the Savior (John 14:6; Romans 5:8-11)
o They need to accept Jesus as their Savior (Romans 10:9-13, 1 John 5:13)
o That the Savior can meet their needs (Romans 8:1; Hebrews 13:5&6)
o That they can live successful lives In Christ (John 20:31; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 John 4:4; Galatians 2:20)

Remember the words of the psalmist, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:11) It is never too late to begin to memorize God’s Word.

• A fourth thing we need to do to be an effective Witness is to have a consistent prayer life. We must Pray for wisdom as we witness, we must Pray for guidance as we witness, we must Pray for the words to speak as we witness, and we should always Pray for a greater desire to be Witnesses. We need to Pray for the Lost, about the Lost, and to see the Lost turn to Christ. We must be warriors for Christ in Prayer!
(Philippians 4:6, Colossians 4:2, James 5:16, 1 John 5:14&15, 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22)

• A fifth thing, is that we must have a heart to serve Christ. A good Witness will have a servant’s heart. This means we are willing to show the lost the same unconditional Love Jesus expresses toward us. We must be willing to meet them where they are, where their need is, however difficult it may be. When we have a servant’s heart as Witnesses, Souls will be saved, lives will be changed, and Christ will be glorified. (1 Peter 4:7-11, Galatians 5:13&14, Colossians 3:23&24)

• The last thing we must do to be Witnesses for Christ, is to know that until He returns to establish His kingdom, He has commanded us to do so. “Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:6-8

Because of the times in which we live, because we all have family and friends who need the Savior, because the world is filled with lost souls in need of the Savior, because the Rapture of the Church is imminent, because Tribulation will soon envelope the world, because His Second Coming will soon follow; we need, more than ever, to be Witnesses of and for Jesus Christ!

Because He alone is Salvation, because He is the Hope of the Church, because He alone judges the nations, because;

Jesus is Coming Soon!

Without Excuse

As I understand it, God sends His wrath from heaven against sinful people because He created them with the ability to know the truth, but they suppress the truth. People have known about Him and His power since He created everything so those who suppress the truth are really without excuse (Rom. 1:18-20).

Consider those who lived in Judah during Old Testament Times. About 140 years before it happened, God told the Jews they would be taken to Babylon (Mic. 4:10). About 100 years before it happened, God told King Hezekiah Judah’s treasures would be taken to Babylon (Isa. 39:1-6). About 35 years before it happened, God told Huldah the judgment of God would fall on Judah (II Chron. 34:22-28). About 20 years before it happened, God told Habakkuk Babylon would destroy Judah (Hab. 1:5-11). And shortly before it happened, God told Judah Babylon would destroy them because they had ignored His words (Jer. 25:8-11). The Jews were given many chances to repent, but they didn’t do it so their destruction was their own fault because they chose not to listen.

Many people today have the same attitude that the people of Judah had. But instead of speaking through prophets like He did in Judah’s day, God speaks through prophecy writers, pastors, church members, family members and in many other ways. If they won’t listen, He will eventually decide that they have had enough chances. Then His judgment will fall and they will be without excuse.

As I see it, God is kind, loving, merciful, patient and full of grace. He is also holy, righteous and just: characteristics that require Him to deal with sin. He rules over this universe and He has told us how He wants us to live. To live any other way is sin. He doesn’t judge people without reason. He gives people many chances. Sinners can be forgiven, but only by putting their faith in Jesus and giving up their sins (John 14:6). If people choose to ignore this, He will be patient, but absent repentance He will eventually act and it will be their fault.

Also, as I see it, many people don’t want to hear Bible prophecy because the idea that a holy, righteous and just God will send judgment upon people, nations or the world scares them. Some may not be saved or they may have loved ones that are not saved and they prefer to ignore the fact that individuals, nations and the world are accountable to God. They would rather suppress the truth than to face the fact that they or their loved ones need to repent or God will eventually hold them accountable. It is especially scary when it is loved ones that are unwilling to repent. The thought of what might happen to them is difficult for kind-hearted people to think about.

Others don’t want to hear Bible prophecy not because it scares them, but because they don’t believe it, they are turned off by it, they are afflicted by self-righteousness, they have been disillusioned by false prophets, or whatever. They have reached the point where they prefer to hear what the god of their imagination says, than what the God of the Bible says. They prefer to heap unto themselves teachers that will tickle their ears. Those who do that are trying to silence God in their life.

Nevertheless, I believe God wants Christians to keep trying to witness to them. He loves them and He wants them to hear it whether they want to hear it or not. He wants them to have many chances to be saved whether they want them or not. Every time they are told about what is going to happen, how close we may be and what they need to do God is giving them a chance to repent, accept Jesus and go to heaven. If they choose not to do it, that is their decision. And they are not really silencing Christians or silencing God in their life, they are silencing themselves at the Judgment. When they stand before Him there will be no acceptable excuses for ignoring His will.

So keep watching, keep witnessing and respect your calling as a Watchman (Ezek. 3:15-19). In so doing, your heart is right with God whether others listen or not. If they listen, they will be saved and you have a crown. If they don’t listen, it is their decision and it is not your fault. Don’t think of them as though they are going to die in the future. Think of them as though they are already dead and God is really giving them a chance to live.

Living in the Last Days… His Remnant Church ~ Part 2

My post today continues the re-introduction of our teaching on His Remnant Church, the True Church of Jesus Christ in the Last Days.

His Remnant Church, is that part of the Body of Jesus Christ in these Last Days, who know that they are the children of God, and are hearing from and following the leading of His Holy Spirit. Within His Remnant Church there is growing a deeper intimacy with Christ, and while few may heed the call to be a part of this church, grace yet abounds in the lives of those who hunger after God’s Word, and especially for His prophetic teaching. His Remnant Church will diligently study the Word as did the Bereans (Acts 17:11), and walk in full authority of the Word as Jesus requires of us. We must realize all things are possible through Him and that we have nothing to offer the world other than Christ.

His Remnant Church works in total humility and subjection to the Word of God, so that God receives all the glory. Only as we grow in the Holy Spirit, will the love of God be manifest for all to see. Men will no longer see us, but see the Spirit of God’s power manifest in our lives, in His Remnant Church. I believe His Remnant Church is made up of a small proportion of God’s people at the end of time, and they are clinging to the unadulterated Gospel, Faith and Doctrines of the church found in the Book of Acts. His Remnant Church will look like the original Church of Acts where faith was still pure and people followed Christ no matter what the cost, where a handful of believers through faith in Christ turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6), where following the teachings of the Holy Spirit caused the Gospel of Jesus Christ to reach the known world. His Remnant Church will look like the early church in Acts in that it will be made up of believers willing to sacrifice everything for the cause of Christ, and will support each other as family.

His Remnant Church will stand on the Word of God alone. This church is comprised of people who have not allowed pagan ideas, humanistic ideas, other religions or idols to have been introduced into their beliefs or worship as it has in many mainstream churches. This church is made up of people who are shutting out the things of this world and turning to the things of God, it is a church which, while it may be in this world, is definitely not of this world. They are hearing the Word of God, listening to the Holy Spirit, understanding Bible Prophecy, and understanding the need to tell the rest of the world, that unless they turn to Christ, judgment is about to fall on them as it falls on this wicked godless world.

His Remnant Church has as our model our Lord Jesus; we are to be a people who will die to self to bring life to others. Death to self for God’s purpose is what will glorify Him. To be a part of His Remnant Church is to travel a lonely road, and few will be prepared to make the journey. Persecution will definitely follow the rise of His Remnant Church just as it did the early church. Paul wrote of this to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:12 “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” And again to the church at Philippi in Philippians 1:29 “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake.”

Those that are satisfied with denominational churches, seeker friendly churches, and comfortable social club churches espousing the teaching of the prosperity gospel, and self-help theology, will certainly not understand nor agree with the teaching of His Remnant Church. This remnant church teaches the message of the narrow way, of Christ as the only way (John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”) it is Jesus plus Nothing. His Remnant Church must expect to experience persecution from these false churches and the false prophets which lead them. His Remnant Church must be prepared to preach the Gospel of repentance as did the Apostles, for Jesus is coming soon to redeem His Church, His Bride, and a time of tribulation will be ushered in to begin God’s Judgment on the Nations.

To be continued… because… Jesus is Coming Soon!
