Israel’s God Is God

With God’s help, I wrote these words around 1993: “Religion and ownership of the land (the Promised Land of Israel) are at the heart of the never-ending Arab-Israeli conflict. The two groups are diametrically opposed to each other because each group thinks it worships the only real God and each group thinks He gave the Promised Land to it. The conflict over this blessed place is theological and directly linked to the question, ‘Whose god is God and who worships the true God?’ The land issue can never be settled until the theological conflict over God’s identity is settled. The religion of the loser is dead” (“On The Brink,” copyright 1995, pp. 37-38).

These words recently came to my mind when I read two articles. The first was a July 29, 2014 Bridges For Peace article titled “Fatah Threatens to ‘Turn Tel Aviv into a Ball of Fire.’” And the second was an August 1, 2014 Israel Today article titled “The God of the Armies of Israel.”

The Bridges For Peace article said PA President Mahmoud Abbas was touting the current conflict between Israel and Hamas as a religious “war for Allah.” Mr. Abbas quoted the Koran when he said, “Allah is competent to give them (the Palestinians) the victory” (Surah 22:39). Mr. Abbas added that, “Allah is with the resistance, both now and in the future.”

The Israel Today article said Israeli Col. Ofer Winter sent a letter to the troops he commands in the Givanti Infantry Brigade. Using words that come straight from the Bible, Col. Winter referred to God as the God of the armies of Israel (I Sam. 17:45). Col. Winter even wrote that Israel has been chosen to “spearhead in the fight against the ‘Gazan’ terrorist enemy that defies, blasphemes, and curses the God of the armies of Israel’” and the Bible calls Israel’s enemies God’s enemies (Psa. 83:2). Col. Winter closed his letter by saying, “The Lord, your God, who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies and gives you victory.”

So the PA leader quoted the Koran, exalted Allah and said Allah was with the Palestinians. And the Israeli officer quoted the Bible, called Israel’s enemies God’s enemies and said God (Jehovah) was with Israel. It should be obvious that both leaders can’t be right. So whose god is God and who worships the true God?

Several other articles caught my attention along these lines. One concerned something Jan Eliasson, UN Deputy Secretary-General said, “It is plain to see that Israel’s use of force has been disproportionate, and that the Palestinian casualties have been excessive.” This UN official was saying the war is one-sided in favor of Israel. It was clear that large numbers of Palestinians were dying even though Israel dropped leaflets more than once warning them to leave; Israel texted people, called people, dropped warning bombs before real bombs exploded, etc. So Israel’s God was winning and the Palestinian god was losing. And the UN, EU, US and many others were trying to get Israel to let up.

Another article concerned a widely circulated headline in the July 18, 2014 Jewish Telegraph newspaper. In an unconfirmed report a Gazan terrorist was asked why Hamas couldn’t aim their rockets more accurately. The terrorist replied, “We do aim them, but their God changes their path in mid-air.” If the report is true, this terrorist recognized that Israel’s God (Jehovah) is more powerful than his god (Allah).

Another article concerned an Israeli soldier that tried to shoot down a terrorist missile twice with an Iron Dome anti-missile. Iron Dome missed both times, and on the third try it showed that a strong wind had pushed the terrorist missile off course. Israel Today reported that the soldier said, “I witnessed this miracle with my own eyes. It was not told or reported to me. I saw the hand of God send that missile into the sea.” Jehovah prevailed again.

There were several other reports of miracles, but I want to recall God’s covenant with Abraham. God said, “I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God” (Gen. 17:7-8). It can be shown that Jehovah was talking about Israel when He said, “I will be their God” (Gen. 17:8-21; 28:13; 35:10-12).
Since 1948, Israel has won several wars against impossible odds. And it seems that her attackers and the world have never understood why. Many say Israel won because the U.S., England or France helped Israel or it was because of Israel’s technology, but Israel was often poorly equipped and greatly outnumbered.

God’s covenant to be Israel’s God is true. So is His promise to never stop watching over Israel (Psa. 121:1-8) and His promise that no weapon formed against Israel will prevail (Isa. 54:17). His identity and the futility of trusting in Allah can be seen in all of these wars. Hamas has met the only real God, but she doesn’t know it, the world doesn’t know it, and sadly, many Church leaders don’t know it. Until these groups realize that ISRAEL’S GOD IS GOD and He is keeping His EVERLASTING covenant to give Israel ALL of the Promised Land and TO BE THEIR GOD, there will be no peace on earth.

The Horse’s Mouth

Pres. Obama is beginning to receive more than a little well-deserved criticism for his constant fundraising. I am not saying fundraising is wrong. But I am saying that Pres. Obama doesn’t let anything interfere with an expensive trip on Air Force One at taxpayer expense to raise money for his political party; that Pres. Obama has taken approximately 400 trips; that it is not unusual for Pres. Obama to be gone for more than a day and to do something else while he is gone (such as play golf); that Pres. Obama is doing it so much that some are accusing him of neglecting his presidential duties and that there are even rumors that some of his donors are growing weary of being asked to give over and over again.

Pres. Obama is also beginning to receive more than a little well-deserved criticism for not telling the truth. It is obvious that his pledge to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States was not true; that those shovel-ready jobs did not exist; that his administration is not the most transparent administration in history; that many who liked their healthcare plan were not allowed to keep it; that our border with Mexico is not secure, and more. Pres. Obama’s dishonesty is blatant, outrageous and well-known.

Having said that, with war raging in Israel, Syria, Iraq and Libya; an unprecedented crisis on the U.S-Mexican border; a Malaysian airliner shot down over Ukraine (perhaps by Russia); and more; Pres. Obama recently embarked on a three-day, five-stop fundraising trip to the U.S. West Coast. And, on at least one of those five stops, he uttered the absolute truth and if I rightly understand what he said, everyone needs to sit up and take notice. He was talking about some of the problems in the world when he said, “part of people’s concern is just the sense that around the world the old order isn’t holding and we’re not quite yet to where we need to be in terms of a new order that’s based on a different set of principles, that’s based on a sense of common humanity, that’s based on economies that work for all people.”

First, Pres. Obama said, “the old order isn’t holding.” This is absolutely true because a strong Christian based U.S. headed up the old world order until Pres. Obama took office. But Pres. Obama reduced America’s nuclear weapons, reduced America’s military, damaged America’s economy, betrayed America’s allies, spread immorality and lied to the point that most of the world no longer respects or trusts Pres. Obama or the U.S. The decline of the U.S. has caused the decline of the old world order.

Second, Pres. Obama said, “we’re not quite yet to where we need to be in terms of a new order.” This is absolutely true because the Rapture hasn’t happened and the Antichrist can’t be revealed until the church is in heaven; all of the ten regions with their Ten Kings (ten leaders) are not fully developed; the negotiations to produce a Middle East peace treaty have collapsed and more. We’re almost there, but not quite.

Third, Pres. Obama said, the new order will be “based on a different set of principles.” This is absolutely true because the New World Order will be a satanic world order not a Christian world order. It will be “against the Christ” (antichrist), spy on, persecute and kill believers. The Golden Rule, Ten Commandments and all other Christian principles will be discarded.

Fourth, Pres. Obama said this different set of principles will be “based on a sense of common humanity.” People will be viewed as citizens of the world not as citizens of a nation and the values of individual religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc.) will be replaced by a common set of politically correct values, rules and laws that are being determined by the elite.

Fifth, Pres. Obama said this different set of principles will be “based on economies (plural) that work for all peoples.” I have long believed that the world will be divided into ten economic regions (ten trading blocks of nations) that will be transformed into ten political regions patterned after the EU and each one will have their own currency, leader or king, etc. I believe that this must happen before the Antichrist can rise to power and establish a one-world economic system. So the world will be merged in phases or stages: more than 190 nations (economies) will be merged into ten groups of nations (economies) and then the ten will be merged into a one-world government and economic system. Wealth redistribution will be a big issue.

In the 1800’s, someone coined the phrase “straight from the horse’s mouth.” Among other things it means “if you want to know the facts, ask someone that is involved.” What Pres. Obama said about the new order (New World Order or World government) came straight from the horse’s mouth.

What Really Is the Question?

A few weeks ago the seed of this article was rolling around in my head as I considered the question: Why is it so many people consider the study of Biblical prophecy to be foolishness? Knowing that approximately one-third of the Scripture is prophetic in nature I personally have dedicated my life in service to Christ, to the study and teaching of Biblical eschatology. Anyone who follows what I write is aware that I am continually calling out cultural, institutional, and mainstream “Christianity” and their so-called “churches” for abandoning sound theological doctrine and embracing a liberal theology of compromise, tolerance, and inclusiveness which is no more than dead religiosity.

Now then, since I began ruminating on the question above, the United States and the World have continued their ever accelerating descent into the Last Days, careening from crisis to crisis. From Russia and the Ukraine; to the IS in Syria, Iraq, and now Lebanon and Turkey; to Libya dissolving into anarchy; to Israel’s war against the Hamas terrorists in Gaza, and the resulting rise of anti-Semitism around the world including the US; to the many domestic crisis within the US resulting from the actions of a lawless President and his administration, not the least of which is our open southern border with Mexico. Every time you look at the news (it really doesn’t matter which venue you choose) it seems we’re faced with a new crisis, and almost predictably you will also hear some babbling leftist liberal or deliberately ignorant Islamist supporter, misquoting or taking Scripture out of context in support of the position of the narrative put forth by the “oppressed” terrorists and their liberal supporters, or for the interests of their “progressive” liberal leftist political party. And, follow me here, what boggles the mind is that one part of this group hates Christians (and Jews) and the other part of them call themselves “Christian” while denying the inerrancy of the very Scriptures they are misquoting, and the deity of Jesus Christ.

So, I believe the answer to the question above as well as the larger question as to why Scripture is so often misquoted or taken out of context, can be found within a passage that the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth. ‘“And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”‘ 1 Corinthians 2:2-16

In this passage Paul tells the Corinthians that he has come to teach them about Jesus Christ, and not doing so in his own power, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. He tells them that the wisdom of God is available to them, can be revealed to them, if they love God, and this is done through His Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself promised His disciples; “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:16 & 17. As He had promised them His Holy Spirit to help them He also told them; “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you” John 16:12-15. Jesus knew that they could not understand these things with a natural mind, but after He sent the Holy Spirit, their minds would be opened to the very things of God and He would bring them understanding in a spiritual way.

The Holy Spirit’s job is to teach us all things, the deep and intimate things of God. So as Paul taught the Corinthians “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” 1 Corinthians 2:14, he was telling them that in their natural state (wherein they did not have a belief in Jesus Christ as Messiah and Savior) and without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit they would not “receive (believe) the things of the Spirit of God.” In their state of unbelief they would simply see them as foolishness even though they could understand the written words. He goes on to say that they could not “know them because they are spiritually discerned” which is to say that it requires the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to have a complete grasp of the Word of God. Anyone can read the Word of God, and anyone can have a rudimentary understanding of what it says, but without a believing faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit cannot teach them spiritual truth.

In his gospel the Apostle John tells us; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” John 1:1-5. He is speaking here of Jesus Christ, Jesus is the Word! The implication is that every jot and tittle of the written Word is from God. The Apostle Paul writes to Timothy; “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” 2 Timothy 3:16-17. If we truly believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God breathed into the writers by the Holy Spirit, then we must understand that we need Him to help us comprehend it just as much today as when it was first written. An unbeliever cannot know those things which are spiritually discerned. The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4

The truth of the matter is the Bible is simply not open to interpretation or even analysis by the unbeliever. Without knowing Jesus you cannot know the Word. Even the rulers of Israel, during Jesus’ life, did not know Him, even though they had studied the Word of God every day of their lives. The Scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees didn’t recognize their long-awaited Messiah even when He stood before them. Jesus told them; “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” John 5:39-40. They did not see the “Word” which “became flesh” because they did not want to see Jesus as the Christ. No one can see and embrace the truth of the Word of God unless they first come face-to-face with the Word of God, who is Jesus Christ. They must believe in Him for who He is and His finished work of grace for them when He paid their sin debt at Calvary. Without faith in Jesus Christ no one can accept or like truth. When you cannot accept truth you end up embracing worldly values which may satisfy your base desires, but will ultimately leave you devoid of an eternal future.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that unbelievers are intellectually incapable of grasping biblical truth. In fact they do have that capability, but because they reject the truth of the Word of God and who Jesus Christ is, they will be judged for their willful unbelief. The unbeliever or “natural man” may have an intellectual grasp of the entire gospel, but without a embracing it and accepting it as truth in his own life, he rejects God, His Son Jesus Christ, and His indwelling Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples; “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe” John 6:63 & 64. So, herein lies the answer to the question, the things of God are spiritually discerned, but unfortunately it’s not just “some” who do not believe today, it is actually a vast majority. And, because they have not the Holy Spirit, they willfully choose to not only ignore biblical prophecy, but the very Word Himself, Jesus Christ.

In 1921 Dr. C. I. Scofield wrote his “Addresses on Prophecy” and within the pages of this book I found this quote. “There is a great deal of the study of prophetic truth, and a great deal of the hearing of the exposition of prophetic truth which has no effect upon conduct or character, simply because it is heard or studied without faith. We bring to it a sort of vulgar curiosity. We desire to know what all these images, and beasts, and horns signify, believing in a way, that there is in them some unfolding of that which is to come to pass, if one can but hit upon the correct interpretation: We may come to the study of prophetic truth with that in mind and derive no profit whatever. It is therefore a believing understanding of prophetic truth which has an influence on either character or conduct.”

As we continue to study biblical eschatology it is my hope and prayer that all of those who blatantly abuse the Word of God will have a face-to-face encounter with Jesus Christ, which transforms them from their liberal ignorance into an active faith. It is also my prayer that in faith they will begin to study and understand God’s prophetic Word. When anyone receives Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior their life begins to change. The natural man that he was, begins to be replaced through the process of sanctification, by the new man who is in Christ Jesus. As he grows in this relationship, the Holy Spirit becomes more and more a reality in his life as he studies the Word of God. The presence of the Holy Spirit in his life enables his mind to know and believe the truth of the Word.

Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Does His Holy Spirit indwell you? Those of us who study the prophetic Word will tell you that the time to make a decision for Jesus Christ is growing very short. We are living in the Last Days, Jesus Christ will Rapture His Church, and a time of Great Tribulation will then enveloped the earth, followed by the physical return of Jesus Christ to the earth to set up His Kingdom.

Jesus is coming soon!

Why I Am Watching Israel and Gaza

The little book of Zephaniah (3 chapters or 53 verses) begins by prophesying the destruction of Judah (the Southern Kingdom) in the days of King Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon. It moves on to prophecies about Judah and the nations as the day of the Lord (a term often applied to the Tribulation period that Zephaniah used more than any other prophet in the Bible) approaches and plays out. Then, it finishes with Judah’s restoration during the millennial reign of the Messiah.

These prophecies clearly have past fulfillments, but some writers think Zephaniah was saying those experiences would be small compared to a greater fulfillment in the future. One of Zephaniah’s more famous statements reads, “The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities (Israel has built a fence to protect her cities), and against the high towers” (Zeph. 1:14-16).

Dropping down to Zeph. 2:1, God told the Jews to gather themselves together (to assemble) and He calls Judah a “nation not desired.” Israel is clearly the apple of God’s eye, but this could mean she is a nation not desired by God at this time because she has rejected her Messiah. And it could also mean that she is a nation not desired by the nations of the world because they want to destroy her.

In Zeph. 2:2, God told the Jews He wants them to assemble “Before the decree bring forth (before the 7 year covenant is signed), before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you (to assemble before the Tribulation Period comes upon the Jews).”

In Zeph. 2:3, God told the Jews and all who will humble themselves to “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.” He wants the Jews and everyone on earth who will humble themselves to meet before the Tribulation Period begins to seek three things: the Lord, righteousness and meekness. Those who do may be hidden (Raptured) before the Tribulation Period begins, but after it begins it will be too late.

In Zeph. 2:4, God mentions four cities: “For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.”

God said Gaza, one of the largest and most northern cities in the Gaza Strip, will be forsaken. As I write this article, IDF planes are dropping leaflets in the northern part of the Gaza Strip for a second time advising residents to forsake their homes and clear out. The first time Israel did this, thousands of residents left, but many stayed because they were told to ignore Israel’s warnings. This time, it looks like Israel’s troops will enter the city and it remains to be seen how many people will stick around.

God said Ashkelon, a Jewish city of more than 100,000 people about 8 miles north of the Gaza Strip border, will become desolate. Its closeness to Gaza makes it a frequent target of Muslim rockets. As I write this article, more than 60 rockets have been fired at Ashkelon in recent days; an Israeli teen has been seriously injured; an Israeli man has been lightly wounded; many Jews are spending the day in bomb shelters; and some have moved to safer territory.

God said Ashdod’s residents will be driven out. More than a quarter of a million people live in Ashdod and it is about 18 miles from Gaza. As I write this, the Iron Dome Missile System has shot down 5 rockets; a Patriot missile has shot down a drone; an 8-year old boy has been slightly injured while playing in his yard; fear and anxiety are spreading in Ashdod; and Hamas has rejected an Egyptian cease-fire proposal.

Kiryat Ekron is a Jewish city of slightly more than 10,000 people. It is named after the Biblical city of Ekron and it is located about the same distance from Gaza as is Ashdod. I have read of sirens sounding in Ekron and the surrounding area, but no injuries.

I can’t predict how things will play out, but a best case scenario could be another temporary suspension of hostilities. And a worst case scenario could be that this conflict spreads into a war with Israel’s neighbors (Psa. 83), including Syria (Isa. 17) and Egypt (Isa. 19), or even the Russian/Islamic invasion of Israel (Ezek. 38-39).

One more thing, based on the Jewish Talmud (not the Bible) some are saying a Tetrad of blood moons are an omen of war for Israel. It is a debatable issue, but no one can deny that the first blood moon in the current Tetrad occurred on April 15, 2014 (the Feast of Passover) and the next one will occur on October 8, 2014 (the Feast of Tabernacles). Between these first two blood moons in this Tetrad war is raging.

[Last minute update: Israel is attacking the Gaza Strip from one end to the other by land, sea and air. It is too early to say that Gaza will be forsaken at this time; and Ashdod, Ashkelon and Ekron are still inhabited; but God is in control, His Word must eventually be fulfilled, war rarely goes exactly as planned and, if God allows it, I plan to keep watching Israel and Gaza.

Israel ~ “Palestine” and a failure to make peace! Nearing Midnight!

Every day as I open God’s Word to study, I am increasingly more aware that the world in which we now live, is truly nearing midnight in God’s prophetic time. In an earlier post I stated that Israel is God’s timepiece, and in fact the restoration of Israel to her homeland and the reestablishment of Jerusalem as her capital is the “super sign” of God’s prophetic “Last Days.” Each week as I scan the headlines of the many Internet news organizations around the world, I attempt to view the events reported on in the perspective and light of biblical prophecy. In doing so, it is apparent to me that we see evidence of the prophetic “Signs of the Times” being fulfilled in our lifetime. And so, my Tuesday post usually involves commentary and analysis on these events worldwide. While I could (and maybe should) continue in that pattern, today I instead want to focus on Israel.

We have established God’s prophetic plan for Israel, and His eternal covenant relationship with the Jews, in some of our past teaching posts on this blog (I certainly hope you have or will read the past posts), and we will continue that teaching in future posts. However, today were going to focus on the recent events in the “peace process” between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Almost immediately after his confirmation as US Secretary of State, John Kerry announced that he, on the behalf of the Obama administration, would once again initiate a dialogue between the nation-state of Israel and the Palestinian Authority to establish a lasting peace involving a two state solution which would allow the Palestinian Authority to achieve nation-state status. Kerry’s boast was that this would be accomplished in a nine-month timeframe. The nine months have come and gone, and the result is the same failure that has been experienced by every US administration since the Palestinians best friend, Jimmy Carter, was president. The reasons for the most recent failure are the very same reasons that these negotiations have failed for the past 40 years. They are very basic:

• The “Palestinians” (who are not a nationality, but an amalgamation of Arabic speaking people’s from the surrounding countries of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and others; and have been disenfranchised by their own people) along with every other Arab nation continue to refuse to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Nation State.

• The “Palestinians” along with most of the UN member nations (now including the US under the leadership of Barack Obama) would at the very least require Israel to divide Jerusalem, putting part of it under the control of the PA for their capital (while nearly all of the rest of the world, including the US, refuses to acknowledge Jerusalem as Israel’s capital).

• The “Palestinians” along with the UN, EU, and now the US have called for Israel to return to their pre-1967 borders (effectively the border established at the end of their war for Independence in 1949). Borders which are patently indefensible (and absolutely everyone including Israel understands this).

• The “Palestinians” continue to refuse to renounce terrorism, and in fact preach and teach intifada in their “schools” which are in fact hate filled terrorist training academies.

With the impending collapse of these most recent talks, Mohammed Abbas (through his political infrastructure), leaked information stating that if Israel did not accede to their demands (demands which included the release of up to 400 more convicted Palestinian terrorists), or if the US was unable to pressure Israel into doing so, Abbas was ready to cancel the Oslo Accords and disband the PA. This would effectively re-institute the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization). This news was met with consternation by the US State Department, while the Israeli government simply stated that if that was Abbas’s desire they would do nothing to stop him. A spokesperson for the US State Department said that this was unacceptable as the United States and the international community had invested millions of dollars in the Palestinian Authority and these negotiations. Israel on the other hand let it be known that they were more than able to handle the security problems which might arise if the PA were disbanded. I am of the opinion, and I’m certain that it’s the opinion of the Israeli government, that the Nation State of Israel would in fact be much more secure without any help from the Palestinian Authority.

The day after the PA made this announcement they began to backtrack saying that this information had not come from the PA or Mohammed Abbas. And then immediately, they announced negotiations between the PA and Hamas, which control Gaza, to reunify as one political entity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said of these developments (after rockets had been fired from Gaza into Israel); “Today we see the Palestinian Authority, which yesterday spoke about disbanding, talking with Hamas about unity. They should decide whether they want to disband or have unity, and when they want peace, they should let us know,” he then added; “on our holiday today, our enemies fired missiles at our communities and our policy is clear — to respond quickly and strongly. We strike at whoever comes to attack us. This is what we have done and this is what we will do.” His statement obviously shows resolve and an unwillingness to cave in to the demands of terrorists. Naftali Bennett, Israel’s finance minister told reporters; “Israel does not negotiate with a gun to its head.”

Fundamentally you must understand, that Mohammed Abbas has no intention of dismantling the PA. He and his cronies have amassed extreme personal wealth by stealing from the funds supplied to the Palestinian Authority, from the United States, the European Union, the UN, Saudi Arabia, and other Arabic states. Disbanding the PA would not only kill his “Cash Cow,” but it would also almost certainly signal an end to his political power in the Palestinian territory. While the vacuum resulting from a disbanded PA might cause short-term security issues for Israel, it would certainly spell the end of the PLO, throwing open the doors for other jihadist organizations to gain more control.

God’s eternal promise to Israel in Genesis 12:2&3 states; “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Unfortunately, it is apparent that very few people (especially those in the Obama administration and the US State Department) open the Word of God and read it today.

God’s hand is on Israel, and at some point in the future (during the Tribulation described in the Revelation of Jesus Christ) He Himself will deal with the nation of Israel and then redeem His chosen people the Jews. Until that time any nation interfering in God’s plan for Israel will face His wrath up to and including complete destruction.

We are living in the Last Days, God’s prophetic time clock continues its march toward midnight for this fallen world, and each person on the face of this earth should be making preparation to either accept God’s free gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ or face His wrath, judgment and eternal damnation.

Biblical Prophecy ~ Part 3 ~ Israel the “Super Sign”

Much of the God’s Word contains prophetic teaching, in fact nearly 30% of Scripture is prophetic in nature. Of the hundreds of specific prophecies contained in Scripture many have been fulfilled and many are yet to be. In this part of our teaching on Biblical Prophecy we want to focus on Israel as a people and a Nation State. The Super Sign of the Last Days, is that Israel is once again a nation. The Jewish people are returning from exile. After nearly two thousand years of rejection, God is going to call them His people again (Hosea 1:9, Romans 9:25-26), but first He must deal with their transgression of the Law (Daniel 9:24).

The story of Israel began in the book of Genesis. God makes a binding covenant with Abraham, who was to be the father of the Jewish nation. The provisions of that covenant are recorded in Genesis 12:1-3, “Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

God’s land covenant promise to Abraham is the linchpin of one of the most important of all Biblical prophecies. Israel’s eternal right of possession of the land God promised to Abraham. This covenant with Abraham is confirmed several times to his descendants in the Old Testament. When these descendants (after 400 years of bondage in Egypt) were about to enter the land promised to them, Moses told them of a coming time when their idolatry would cause them to be driven from the land that God was giving them. In Deuteronomy 4:27 we find recorded; “And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD will drive you.”

The Jews subsequently were partially scattered by the Assyrians and Babylonians, and then after a time of exile God restored them to the land. However in 70 AD, as Jesus Himself prophesied, the temple was destroyed by the Roman armies of Titus, and the Jews were driven from Jerusalem. Israel, as a nation, began again to be scattered, and then during the Bar Kochba Revolt from 132 to 136 AD, Emperor Hadrian sent 12 of his 24 Legions to expel the Jews from Israel completely, and they were scattered like chaff in the wind to the four corners of the earth. Hadrian then renamed the occupied territory Palestine.

Yet in spite of all of this, God chose the Jews. He gave them a land; He made them an irrevocable promise, it is a binding covenant! Over the intervening centuries at various times small groups of Jews tried to return to Palestine. They returned in small numbers following various persecutions in the lands that they had been scattered to such as the Spanish expulsion of the Jews in 1492 when 800 to 1200 Jews returned to Palestine. Not until the late 1800s was there a truly united effort to reestablish a permanent community of Jews in the Holy Land as some began purchasing property there.

Beginning with the British Balfour Declaration in 1917 a multinational effort was begun to allow the Jews to return to Palestine. This effort intensified after the horrors of the Holocaust in Nazi Germany during World War II. By 1948 the Jewish population of Palestine numbered approximately 800,000.

In understanding Biblical Prophecy as it relates to the Last Days, one must realize that Israel is God’s time clock. Every prophecy relating to the end times require Israel to be back in their land, the land promised to them by God in His covenant with Abraham. The fulfillment of this prophecy truly began on May 14, 1948 with the rebirth of the Nation of Israel. In comprehending what an incredible act of God this was, we need to understand than never before in the history of the world had an ancient people retained their identity while scattered throughout the world, and then returned to their homeland to reestablish their national identity.

The most significant event since Israel’s independence in 1948 was their capture of Jerusalem and the West Bank at the culmination of the Six-Day War in 1967, when they were attacked by their Arab neighbors. Jerusalem is once again the Capitol of the nation of Israel. Not only have they restored the land itself but they have also resurrected their historic Hebrew language. No people have ever endured more suffering over the centuries than exiled Jews. The persecution they endured is unimaginable, in fact during the Holocaust alone they saw the extermination of one third of the worldwide Jewish population.

The re-gathering of the Jewish people in their homeland is necessary for the rest of the end time prophecies to be fulfilled. The events in the prophecies found in Isaiah 17, Isaiah 19, Psalm 83, Zechariah 12, Ezekiel 38 and 39, all hinge on Israel being in their homeland. And from Revelation 4:2 through Revelation 19, God is dealing with the nation of Israel to draw them to Himself while punishing the nations for the way they have treated His chosen people, Israel. The Tribulation begins with a peace treaty signed between Israel and the antichrist. Many other things such as a false peace, the rebuilding of the third Jewish temple, and a coming great persecution of the Jewish people under the antichrist have all been prophesied. It will all take place because God has said it.

This incredible rebirth of Israel as a nation is only the beginning, the most incredible in dramatic events of the end times concerning the world and Israel as a nation lie ahead. One only has to look at the news today to realize that the issue of who controls the Promised Land is still one of the most volatile subjects in international politics. Today Israel is surrounded by nations both near and far who have vowed to see Israel wiped off the face of the earth.

In Zechariah 12: 1-3 the Scripture reads, “The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.”

Yet God will be Israel’s defender as we read in Zechariah 12: 8-10; “In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.”

This is why as believers we need to understand the importance of Israel in these Last Days. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem and pray for God’s chosen people Israel because;
